@Firehearte Because the majority of US don't have any interest in robotics. So gadgets such as these will probably never make it to the US.

As long as the US lacks interests in robotics technology(or pretty much any hardware technology in general), there is little reason for any companies to bring, I imagine expensive, product such as this here.

I guess it's also a cultural thing, as in Asia, a lot more emphasis is placed on math and science, so they hold a natural affinity to robotics.

They're inserting the voice recognization system soon. Right now its still attached to a companion laptop.

So, they wouldn't respond to a voice from the TV, etc.

Hmm. Well, I definitely like the overall desing. Sleek and adorable is the way to sell it. I have to point out how cumbersome this idea is. It's a little bulky just going off size and the movements would make it larger than just it' size as well. You'ld have to accommodate for a sphere that gets larger and smaller, and that might be hard. Plus, I don't have to point out how annoying it would be to channel surf after awhile. Why does a robot have to do such mundane tasks?

Why not build it to do a lot of things and just have this be one of those things? Like maybe it'll clean your house, too. Or maybe it'll do other things. Why does it JUST have to be an adorable universal remote. We already have those. They aren't adorable, but they certainly don't come with useless movements and whatnot.

My point is why make something to do only ONE task if something already exists? Why not BUNDLE the future?

maybe because they are researching and researching and this is a way to try and use all the info they have? do you know how much work, time and effort, if not money, goes into this stuff? And you want them to build a robot with EVERYTHING. they need to seeif this works first so as they can take bigger steps... it's not baking or sewing, sweetie. It's making something that can act not exactly on it's own, but sorta, without you messing your hands.

They've already made technology that recognizes speech better from farther away (heard of some of the new features of Windows 7?), and plus, it would be just as easy to have a wireless mic which attaches a receiver to the robot, then have the mic by the couch (instead of the remote)
