Way I see it: if it hadn't been for the war & their careers, Rick & Minmei probably would've dated for a while. Would they have gone the whole 9 yards - wedding, kids, grand-kids, growing old in a retirement home somewhere? But since they never had a chance to date properly, it turned into an obsession for Rick, always pining for the elusive ideal, blinding him to Lisa's presence.

For a split second, at 18:35, you can see Rick holding the scarf, and it says "LM ♥ HI." Since that only make sense with Rick's name in the Japanese version, I guess they cut it out of the English-language version.

If Rick had even one iota of the skills of pimping that Roy had, he would've banged Minmei already (in fact multiple times and even tape it once since celebrity sex tapes are gold!).
