The difference is many Iraqis want us there, including the government. The US didn't invade Iraq to go after innocent Iraqi civilians; the US is trying to stop those who set off bombs in crowded marketplaces. The US is there to defend innocent life, yours as well as theirs. I don't think we should stay there forever but - your comparison shows a real lack of perspective.

How do you know that the Iraqis want us in Iraq? I have read a number of independent polls where a large majority of Iraqis felt like their quality of life has decreased since we went in.

I realize that some Iraqis do want us there, but from what I understand the situation there is very hopeless. Assuming you live in America you have no position to judge what the Iraqis want.

I have heard polls go either way, but I've heard US politicians say they should have a vote whether we stay or leave. My point is it's a fundamental difference from his scenario. I've lived many places - you live in America and are in no position to judge what Iraqi's want? I've no problem letting them decide.
