I own a Sega Saturn as well, but I bought it expensive when it had just came out. What a great console it was. One thing I really loved about the sega saturn games, was that you could listen to the games music with any regular CD player. And sega saturn's music was amazing in a lot of games. Aww the great memories.....

The Sega Genesis had Sega Channel which laid the foundation for todays cable based highspeed internet. Both the SNES and Genesis had modems made by Xband which offered the first online competetive gaming to a console. Xband worked with Sega to make the netlink which was the first official modem.

Out of curiosity I googled "Saturn Netlink Magicjack" and was taken to the Saturn League website where someone else brought up the subject back in April. Compare how smooth this game is compared to the (literal) Hell that is Doom.. That game is so slow and jerky, to go from playing Radient Silvergun to that pile of wank, I just assumed the Saturn couldn't do 3D FPS - not so it seems!

Yeah it runs really great. Vitual On which is a Mech fighting game runs perfect. I've played from Ohio against a guy in Colorado with 0 lag.

Got a mega bargain on what? If you're talking about the Netlink modem...no they're regularly cheap as hell. I got one for Atarix777 complete in box, with two Netlink games for $20 shipped. Mine came sealed in box for $20 shipped. And one time I got a Saturn on eaby for $30 shipped with 9 games, a controller and a Netlink. You can get a loose Netlink modem for about $5 online. No one really knows what they are since the Saturn was so unpopular.
I've got a video on here that's some online Saturn Bomberman and had recorded some Virtual On online play but have no idea where that footage went lol. Eventually I'll get some video of Virtual On and Sega Rally online play.
But online FPS in 1997....must have been amazing back then! I especially like the co-op play.

- No. I explain in the videos that to play gmaes you do NOT need an internet account. All you need is an analog phone line. One Saturn netlink Dials the second Saturn netlink and it makes a direct modem to modem connection. No servers, no internet. The only fees that matter are long distance phone rates. Digital phone/vonage/magic jack will NOT work. Needs to be a standed phone line.
You can also use the internet to browse web pages and for that you do need a dial up ISP. A lot of ISP's offer free dial up incase of an outage of any sort. Check with your ISP. But web browsing on a Saturn is pretty pointless. The browser software is 13 years old now and with all the flash and CSS and modern web standards it wouldn't really display right. Also it'd be over a 28.8kbps connection.
For gameplay all you need is a phone line and another netlinker to play against.
My phone line is about 6 meters from my tv, oh well

No the Sega CD was actually pretty awesome and had plenty of great games. If you like RPGs there are some great ones and Snatcher is one of the best games ever made. Popful Mail,Sonic CD,Lunar, Lunar 2, Android Assault, Shining /force CD, Final Fight CD. It seems popular to trash the SCD ever since the Angry Nerd shit talked it. Sure the FMV games sucked but PSX had them too.
