It takes 3 hours with 2, 5 min stops. The start is late afternoon arriving at the top to see the lava in the dark. First hour through reedbeds via steep steps. It is extremely steep. Next hour is acroos the ash, then the lava boulder field up to the top. After 40 minutes at the top you go down the back in the dark. The first 1,000 feet is very steep in 2 ft deep light ash - almost skiing on your feet, then into a deep ditch to the bottom - its hell ! The bar at the bottom is very welcome.

I was there in September 2007. it is a stuuning place. it takes 45 minutes to climb, and the views as you can see are really spectacular.
I loved it and thought Stromboli would be as simple !!!
