I think playing to be good shouldn't make people wannabes. (but playing ONLY to be good does) Practicing is mostly giving yourself confidence until you are happy with how you sound.

Skill isn't a prerequisite but it is a plus. ^^

Also, I think making your listeners feel the music you are playing counts.
