Oh' come on, youtube might have compression, but it can still sound hi-fi- it's that crappy mic on your camera. 90% of people showing music gear show stuff worth hundreds of dollars yet they can't invest $24 on a 4 channel 1/4" jack mixer. Run your drum machine/organ/guitar through that, a mic to talk into and then run the output of the mixer to your computer mic/line in.
@paulj0557 Reason for that being I made this when I was 15 and was super excited about just having the Linn so I decided to make a video of it. Didn't exactly want / need to invest in a mixer or anything for that.
I bought an LM-2 at a yard sale here in Camas, Washington about 8 years ago for 10 bucks; I used to sync it to my Fostex R-8 reel-to-reel. Now I use it by playing it "live" onto my Pro Tools system. I can put each drum onto its own track; fun and cool at the same time; fits right into the genre I write and record into.
Seriously, this might have been a good piece of equipment back in the day........... but honestly if you dont already have one why go buy this? They were supposed to come out with a new one last year and still havent provided a date for release of the new Linn Drum II......
Yes ,the LinnDrum uses digital samples of real instruments. Analog drum machines (such as Korg MiniPops, Roland CR-78 & TR-808) use electronic circuits to synthesize the drum sounds. However, ther Roland TR-909 is an analog/digital hybrid machine with digital samples for the hi hat, ride & crash cymbals, but analog circuits to create the other sounds (bass, snare, toms, rim shot & clap). The LinDrum is still a great sounding machine even today after 25+ years. I wish I hadn't sold mine.
I've made far worse vintage synth demo's than this so don't flatter yourself!!! :p
PS, I just scored a LinnDrum, pretty much MINT!

Its not 100% digital it used analog filtering to clean up the low bandwidth. I believe curtis chips.

spectres00 1 year ago
@spectres00 YES! And countless other artists on almost every 80s song you can imagine
mikosoft 1 year ago
@spectres00 That was an Oberheim DMX which is pretty similar to the Linn actually, they both use EPROMS.

This box was the beginning of the end for many session drummers. This demo doesn't demonstrate the true audio quality.

They have a real groove too, quite different to say, Roland's groove.
Was this transferred over to the MPC series when Akai took over?

This machine is legendary.
The snare drums on that machine are unique & I can't find them anywhere else (Prince - When Doves Cry/ Erotic City.
Examples of what this machine is capable of.
Have fun!!!
