  • Hi Tahphoto,

Thanks for the feedback. You can certainly see in Platons work a heavy dose of wide angle lens application. Shoot wide (24mm or less) and moving in close will GREATLY distort dimension. Things relatively close to the lens will get unnaturally large and those far away will get unnaturally small. This can be a real asset, depending on what you wish to communicate. I (and many photogs) will do this, but I will certainly choose other lenses for different purposes.

  • I've learned through reading/rumours that Platon uses wide angle... you use 70-200.. wide angle would've created great distortion at that close range...?? Great video... love the telestrator, graphic and ease of commentary...

  • I enjoyed this video very much. I think platon uses a beauty dish and a sliver reflector to give that 'harsher' lighting effect.

  • @DebbiinCalifornia Platon is my uncle. I'm not even kidding

  • I think that Plato used harsher light straight above the head and shadow was made in post process. Note that shadows is going also across Putin's shoulders.

    Good video nonetheless!

  • Hey Levinet,

THANK YOU. I'm working on another studio lighting tutorial, and a field lighting tutorial. Please stay tuned.

  • Great little tutorial, very helpful as I'm just getting into lighting now. Thanks a lot!
