Fighting wise, Leo has a little more skill than Raph,, only because when Raph gets angry he isn't thinking straight, while Leo stays in control an I think that's what Leo meant when he said he was better. He wasn't talking about being stronger than Raph but he knows his brother and his weakness, and Raph saw that weakness after he broke Leo's swords and didn't stop. In the end Leo is the leader because of his sense of responsibility and skill

After this part, the writers shit on Leo (like they did w/ Donnie and Mikey) by having Raph offered leadership of the villain team, making Leo a damsel in distress, and having Raph fight the main bad guy alone. Physically, however, Ralph is easily the strongest of the four, so those attributes would balance each other out right? However, Ralph has a short temper and can easily be pushed over the edge, that's why canonically Leo usually wins. This time is different because Ralph showed his bloodthirsty side and Leo wasn't expecting it to go that far.

This is the best part! I think Leo won the fight by losing. Leo didn't hold back, Raph kicked his ass while he was raging. But he proved to Raph that he's the appointed leader for a reason, because he doesn't let anger sway him. Raph breaks Leo's swords, then he still attacks him after he was defenseless. At that point, Leo kind of just stares at him dismissively because he proved his point, that he's better than Raph.

I've always felt a connection with Raph. My elder sibling is just like Leo...I know how he feels. In the world of the turtles I do really like Leo and despite that I root for Raphael; Leonardo is the superior fighter. But Raph is definitely stronger physically. In this particular situation it makes sense that he won. Martial Arts engagements are like that: You never know who is going to win. It's all in circumstance.

thanks for loading this doohde. Now as to complaint on the content. WHY do they do that? Why can't they just let them all be the best at what they are the BEST at!!! Don is the machinist and the most gadget savy, Mike is the most social and fun, Raph has the temper, is the most unfocused, arguabley the closes to Splinter and kinda the glue that binds them together oddly enough (see the frist two live action films,..even the 3rd on this topic) and LEO is the BEST N I N JA!! HE would destroy RAPH!
Also, I'd like to point out that I doubt that he "let" Raph win (that would be silly cuz Leo wanted to prove a big point, too) He wanted to win, and I'd like to believe that Leo is perfectly capable of winning without decapitating or seriously injuring his opponent (like Raph did). Leo is angry in this, too, and you can see at 4:24 that he IS serious. He couldn't have "easily" won or he would have; Leo has no qualms with knocking Raph down. Raph won, fair and square, doesn't mean he's better.
Leo is the leader; but that doesn't make him the most physically powerful. It means he has what his brothers (as individuals) lack; intelligance, discipline, motivation, etc, and overall he has the best ability to lead. He uses these things to his advantage. In a fight against Raph, I'd say he'd win 35 outta 50 because of these things (plus Raph's anger), but in a fight like this, where the last move relied on physical strength (not to mention Raph's weapon designed for this purpose), he lost.

Wow, Leonardo's an asshole in this. It was so satisfying to see raph win. But fuck, this was a great scene. I never thought there would be such compelling emotional conflict in what's technically a kid's movie. Maybe it's because the writers realized that most of the original fanbase are in their 20s now.
Also the way I understand it Raph is the strongest and Leonardo has the most fighting skill. Leo's technically at an advantage, but raph would only have to get a few shots on him to win.

In that fight, speed was the most important factor.
Imagine training to fight at full-speed in a huge suit of armor. Without the armor, you'd be even faster. If an encumbered Raph beat naked Leo, imagine how the fight would have gone if Raph wasn't wearing the suit.
As for leadership, a good leader doesn't berate people. That really sucked on Leo's part.
So Leo did not knew that guy in a suit was raph...so Leo is trying remove a hero in town...that was a stupit idea thats like if he would try to remove for example Spiderman or superman (Yeah I know there from diffrent company BUT still WTF)
I think a part of the reason Leo lost was because while fighting Raph, oppose to the Vigilante he thought he was, he assumed it was just another punk, just another bad guy. Your not going to win a war, let alone a fight if you don't know why your fighting your enemy and why they are fighting you. It had nothing to do with Raph's skill.

Iconic Raphael. I remember sitting in the theater, and actually hoping Raph came out on top. He was my favorite, from childhood, though I still like the entire cast. This fight was great. Not as long and emotional ad Obi Wan vs Anikin, but I was just as invested in this one.

To be honest, the people saying that Leonardo just held back during the fight are to me just trying to excuse the fact that he lost. I never got the indication that they weren't doing more than their best and Raphael did overpower him by simply being stronger.
However, it's not that Leonardo wouldn't and couldn't take his brother down, since he has the advantage of being better in terms of fighting techniques and tactical planning, but the last part clearly showed none of the sort.
@KungKeno21 (Continued.) You can clearly see that Raphael is physically much stronger than Leonardo and despite what people say about using just pure brute strenght, it is in fact a force to be reckoned with, and Raph showed it very well by breaking the swords.
Had Leonardo been doing what he's best at, I think he would have had a better chance of winning, but Raphael won this battle fair and square and Leonardo got his ass handed to him by underestimating what Raph is possible of doing.

Raph mostly won because sais are anti-sword weapons. they're made for blocking and breaking blades and that's exactly why he won. Good use of his weapons, but he had an advantage in them to begin with.

if we're gonna be technical about this it was a tie. leo won the hand to hand fight and raph won in weapons.so theres no clear cut winner there would need to be a tie breaker.and yeah leo held back in the weapons fight...hes alot more tehnical than raph so he would have won if it was anybody else.
My favorite scene out of the whole movie! Raph learned that you don't have to be strong to be a great leader. Leo learned that to be a great leader you don't have to be better than anybody. Both are my favorite TMNT!!

@plastichasmemory I disagree, in my observation, it seems that the reason Ralph failed in the first segment was that his helmet dut his visiona nd dulled his hearing, giving Leo a distinct advantage, once the helmet came off, that was it for Leo. The shock of it being Ralph evedently ended when Ralh knocked him back into that wall, he actually seemed to ahve a more serious take in the second segment of the fight. Also Leo was over confidint, thinking he was better than Ralph, but he was wrong.

Guys Leo lost on purpose why cant you understand, he was beating up raph easily in the metal costume, he just didnt want to fight raph when he found out it was him, he could of killed raph easily but wanted to teach him a moral or lesson at the end. at 4:24 Leo could of easily chopped off raphs head but he missed on purpose. It even shows he wasnt trying. SO please do not under estimate Leo, he is the leader for a reason.

I've always felt a connection with Raph. My elder sibling is just like Leo...I know how he feels. In the world of the turtles I do really like Leo and despite that I root for Raphael; Leonardo is the superior fighter. But Raph is definitely stronger physically. In this particular situation it makes sense that he won. Martial Arts engagements are like that: You never know who is going to win. It's all in circumstance.

thanks for loading this doohde. Now as to complaint on the content. WHY do they do that? Why can't they just let them all be the best at what they are the BEST at!!! Don is the machinist and the most gadget savy, Mike is the most social and fun, Raph has the temper, is the most unfocused, arguabley the closes to Splinter and kinda the glue that binds them together oddly enough (see the frist two live action films,..even the 3rd on this topic) and LEO is the BEST N I N JA!! Also, I'd like to point out that I doubt that he "let" Raph win (that would be silly cuz Leo wanted to prove a big point, too) He wanted to win, and I'd like to believe that Leo is perfectly capable of winning without decapitating or seriously injuring his opponent (like Raph did). Leo is angry in this, too, and you can see at 4:24 that he IS serious. He couldn't have "easily" won or he would have; Leo has no qualms with knocking Raph down. Raph won, fair and square, doesn't mean he's better.

Leo is the leader; but that doesn't make him the most physically powerful. It means he has what his brothers (as individuals) lack; intelligance, discipline, motivation, etc, and overall he has the best ability to lead. He uses these things to his advantage. In a fight against Raph, I'd say he'd win 35 outta 50 because of these things (plus Raph's anger), but in a fight like this, where the last move relied on physical strength (not to mention Raph's weapon designed for this purpose), he lost.

Wow, Leonardo's an asshole in this. It was so satisfying to see raph win. But fuck, this was a great scene. I never thought there would be such compelling emotional conflict in what's technically a kid's movie. Maybe it's because the writers realized that most of the original fanbase are in their 20s now.
Also the way I understand it Raph is the strongest and Leonardo has the most fighting skill. Leo's technically at an advantage, but raph would only have to get a few shots on him to win.

Okay, I'm not much of a fan of Ninja Tutrtles-Heck, I only know the Tutrtles, the Master, and Shredder! But, Leo is better as leader. We all know why. Raphael is too angry, he thinks he can be leader because he's the toughest physically. But Raphael doesn't have the Strategy, Patience, and art for leadership, cause he's always too angry and will kill anybody when angry. He's not fit for leader.

In that fight, speed was the most important factor.
Imagine training to fight at full-speed in a huge suit of armor. Without the armor, you'd be even faster. If an encumbered Raph beat naked Leo, imagine how the fight would have gone if Raph wasn't wearing the suit.
As for leadership, a good leader doesn't berate people. That really sucked on Leo's part.

I think a part of the reason Leo lost was because while fighting Raph, oppose to the Vigilante he thought he was, he assumed it was just another punk, just another bad guy. Once it was revealed it was Raph Leo must have had a lot of things going through his mind. To be specific not understanding why Raph was doing this all this. Your not going to win a war, let alone a fight if you don't know why your fighting your enemy and why they are fighting you. It had nothing to do with Raph's skill.

Iconic Raphael. I remember sitting in the theater, and actually hoping Raph came out on top. He was my favorite, from childhood, though I still like the entire cast. This fight was great. Not as long and emotional ad Obi Wan vs Anikin, but I was just as invested in this one.

To be honest, the people saying that Leonardo just held back during the fight are to me just trying to excuse the fact that he lost. I never got the indication that they weren't doing more than their best and Raphael did overpower him by simply being stronger.
However, it's not that Leonardo wouldn't and couldn't take his brother down, since he has the advantage of being better in terms of fighting techniques and tactical planning, but the last part clearly showed none of the sort.

@KungKeno21 (Continued.) You can clearly see that Raphael is physically much stronger than Leonardo and despite what people say about using just pure brute strenght, it is in fact a force to be reckoned with, and Raph showed it very well by breaking the swords.
Had Leonardo been doing what he's best at, I think he would have had a better chance of winning, but Raphael won this battle fair and square and Leonardo got his ass handed to him by underestimating what Raph is possible of doing.

Raph mostly won because sais are anti-sword weapons. they're made for blocking and breaking blades and that's exactly why he won. Good use of his weapons, but he had an advantage in them to begin with.

Leo is more skilled and knows how to fight and being calm at the same time. I think the moment he found out it was Raph his fighting mind changed.. when he didn't know it was Raph before he was kicking his ass. It put Leo back a bit cause he really loves his brothers. Raph was so overcome with anger that he didn't care if he hurt Leo. Raph is definitely probably the strongest when he's angry.
Still, Raph and Leo are my fav turtles. I can't choose out of them two.

@plastichasmemory I disagree, in my observation, it seems that the reason Ralph failed in the first segment was that his helmet dut his visiona nd dulled his hearing, giving Leo a distinct advantage, once the helmet came off, that was it for Leo. The shock of it being Ralph evedently ended when Ralh knocked him back into that wall, he actually seemed to ahve a more serious take in the second segment of the fight. Also Leo was over confidint, thinking he was better than Ralph, but he was wrong.
