I personally view Anime and Manga as a form of art and the characters are designed and created to fit what the artist imagines and creates them as.

The face thing makes sense, but let's not kid ourselves here- Japan absorbs culture like no other. There are PLENTY of things in anime and in general Japanese pop culture that stem from Western influence. Caucasians tend to have more pronounced and prominent facial structures which apparently isn't the trait of Serah. Caucasians also have more prominent jaw (jaw, not chin). You will see the difference if you compare oval/heart-shaped face Caucasian vs Asian. Someone with a very narrow jaw and thin face would be Yang Fan. Google him up. at the end of the day it doesn’t terribly matter what stereo type said character fits by their appearance. In most cases the show will actually mention where the character lives and even a bit of information on where he/she/it is from,. Many times a show will take place in a non-existent town or city on a unknown planet. I personally view Anime and Manga as a form of art and the characters are designed and created to fit what the artist imagines and creates them as.

The other thing to keep in mind for some people living in those countries is that pale skin is desired. It's the same belief many Europeans held for a long time - dark skin and rough hands represent a person of low class, a worker, whereas someone of refinement is pale and smooth. There are skin bleaching treatments in some asian countries to try and get as pale as possible.

And, it's still much more common to see an american with a busty curvy figure than to see a japanese girl with a super curvy figure. also in japanese manga many of the super busty curvy girls ARE supposed to be the average japanese girl. sure a majority of manga series are about people with powers also,

The characters don't have to represent the average feat of a person its a fictional world. I don't know about you but 90% of time I ever saw a person with a busty figure was a model or a porn star and I'm a American living in America.

There might be a lot but a lot does not mean most so I don't see the big deal. Some people get serious as if fictional characters have to be realistic I'm sure you understand that.

@Dawnofwarunited Yeahh and of course im not saying they have to be realistic at all, i was just pointing out something that wasn't true about the video because it states that anime body types are based on real asian body types when they are actually (about 80-90% of the time) based on fantasy. i rarely see super busty asian girls with F cups that defy gravity. i do agree that the facial features are somewhat based on real asian faces though.

@Dawnofwarunited body preference and standard of beauty in japan was referred to at 5:53-6:33 and they showed a comparison between ideal bodytypes of japan and ideal bodytypes of america, and it implied that there was a preference for non curvy girls in japan in general and my point was that anime and manga doesn't reflect or really hold true to that statement at all.

There are PLENTY of things in anime and in general Japanese pop culture that stem from Western influence. Anime chars have exaggerated eyes, that doesn't fit any race, BUT they have the flat sockets, small nose, wide set eyes, wide&short face, proportionally shorter chin, small mouth, slim body types which is far more commonly occuring features of JAPANESE(not exactly asian.) & Japanese are asain. You can compare celebrities of similiar age range from both country (japan & america) and see the anime-likeness w your own eyes. (i.e YAMADA RYOSUKE with JUSTIN BEIBER, SASAKI NOZOMI with TAYLOR SWIFT.)

Simpson's obviously white, look at his long,narrow face, huge eyes(which is very close set, not common at ALL in asian),horizontally wide mouth(our mouth tend to be much smaller in width compared to caucasian's), prominent nose, body type. but, his skin is yellow. would you say simpson's asian, because of his ONE exaggerated aspect, skin colour, is more likely to represents "ASIAN" skin colour in your perspective? @ *part 2* so when an average non-asian looks at an anime character, they would only notice the big round eyes, the pale white skin, and (depending on the character), hair that isn't black or straight. So together, these are features that caucasians would have. But when people start looking at the the other features like the head shape, nose lengh, facial profile, body form and all these other features and compare them to japanese models who model for a japanese audience and caucasian models...

@nonames364 *part 1* you know, the reason why people think that anime & manga characters look white is that anime characters have really big round eyes when japanese people have thin slanted eyes, which is basicly the opposite. People raised in non-japanese societies usualy don't really notice the mountain of simalarities such as facial profile, eye flatness, body form, ect because they need steioro typed fetures do recongnize the differant races.
