try using some dryer lint for tinder; that stuff goes up like nobody's business and it's very easy to obtain... most people just throw it away

I have a flint stick and it looks just like your's and I get these real giant sparks on dead dry grass and no matter how hard I try it does not light!!

Well, this wasn't just plain dry grass. I mixed it with dry pine wood splinters. Moisture, even minimal, is a real killer with this thing.
The rod is complex alloy. Scrape it with steel to produce HOT sparks. You can get it in outdoor or army store.
were can you get fire steel or a flint rod or just a flint?
