@sireel Yeah me too - just now - one whole year after you - why didn't you tell me about him sooner? :-) Seriously great playing here though - fab, fab stuff!
I purchased "Scenes" immediately after hearing this band's recording of the track called 'Psalm' on KUAZ (from University of Arizona). I was stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ in the Army Band down there at the time. Kudos to John for his fantastic guitar playing, but really the whole group has a great vibe and chemistry throughout the album. World Class!! I highly recommend purchasing "Scenes" for those who haven't had the pleasure of hearing it...
I really like John's playing overall, but I wish his sound were just bit louder and clearer (I'm thinking a little toward a John Abercrombie -Mordy Ferber sound). But, I like his lines and timing and everything else, really! Maybe it's just this one recording.
John plays with such great imagination and intensity! It's always a delight to hear him in any setting, but this group is especially nice. Great stuff!
John Stowell is brilliant! Really, he is one the smartest players in jazz guitar. I was fortunate to have several lessons from him back in 1997 & 1998. He gave me some good feedback on my playing. Although I don't play as much, I still dig jazz guitar and John Stowell.
Awesome job.. This is great music. John Stowell is great on this, and i was fortunate enough to get the chance to study with him at Berklee. anyone know of a CD with these recordings?
Don't know if we met personally at Berklee, but thanks for your kind words. There are two recordings with this band on Origin Records ("Scenes" and "Scenes-Along the Way"; the latter is trio). Hope our paths cross again.
This guy is great

Good stuff - seems to be a major John McLaughlin 'Extrapolation' influence going on here. Nothing wrong with that in my book....
