I remember tears in my eyes, when I listened to this at the end about 12 years ago... and I feel the same after those years, because I remember the golden age of gaming. The age, when game makers were doing art and cared for players.
I think that "Mr. President" is the most memorable and shocking quote that'll ever be, even if I have beaten the game around 150 times it still gets to me XD

Mr. Hideo Kojima Should Be given The Best Game Developer Of all time award. What a fantastic Game MGS is, i have never in my life played another game who is even close to this series. Truly its a remarkable master piece. It feels Like in Every game of This Series that you are watching a very excellent movie with great action, story, romance, drama. No game nether any series can come even 1% close to it. From The bottom of my heart I thank Mr. Kojima for giving such a master piece to the world.
No game will ever have the heart that Metal Gear Solid does. All the games of today like COD, Halo, Uncharted, Gears of War, they are all soulless bodies wandering around.

@cars8907 I don't think he was referring to Rose. Besides, Kojima didn't even really come up with the complete idea for MGS2 until 2000-ish so I doubt Rose even existed as a character, if anybody he's talking about Naomi, or maybe Meryl ..
Deep inside our hearts, we know that the MGS saga is just a fictional story. But then again, fiction may be real. The threat of death by our own mistakes; liberties lost everyday... The only thing we can do, is to fight. To keep our hopes high for a better future.
What I adore about this ending is the simplicity, yet how emotionally gripping it is. You see the beauty of the Alaskan landscape that was saved from nuclear disaster.

Halo is a good epic, but i could careless about aliens and the fate of humanity. Call of Duty is flat out cliched the entire series. Red Dead Redemption was SOOO close, but the ending sucked my balls.
What they need to do to satisfy most MGS gamers would be to take MGS1 and upgrade the graphics. Thats all. No new cutscenes, no First Person View shooting. Just keep the original cutscenes the way they are. Wouldnt even have to make new recordings. Just keep the music and weapons right where they originally were and upgrade the graphics to MGS4 standards and release it on XBOX 360 and PS3. In my opinion Twin Snakes was a horrible remake. No soul to it.
@drpepper70707 What exactly would the point of that be? It sounds like all you want to see is the game with today's pretty graphics, which all in all is a very pointless idea. I don't see why people let stupid things like that ruin their experience, that's precisely why so many people haven't played the original MG games, like they're too cool to go back a few generations...
@MisterBankz Poor graphics haven't ruined it at all. The better the graphics the more can be shown with facial expressions, slight movements, and so on. More can be shown about the characters rather than the story line, making it much better visual gameplay. For instance, you would be able to see the pain, regret and sorrow on Gray Fox's face rather than just hear him. Or on a more humorous note, see Snake grin as he watches Meryl walk.

Thumbs up if after you beat the game you received the message "Save game?" but you pressed x instead of o and it exited to the title screen resulting in you losing all your data and screaming into your t.v. screen "KOJIMA!!!!"
Sad cause it was the end of the best game ever. Way better if you ride off into the sunset with Otacon. Shots of Alaska made me Nostalgic for the gameplay througout the frozen land.

When I played this I have to admit it tear jerked me big time. With all the threat of War, Nuclear Devices, and all the fighting in the game this song and video at the end reminds us what we are fighting for. When the song played at Shadow Moses it happened to me again. This time now snake has nothing to live for but is fighting for a new generation so they may live on.
I don't know why every time i hear this song i just get hit by so much love for the original game, playing it hours upon hours after I got off school. And when I first played MGS4 and went to Shadow Moses, I heard this and couldn't help but simply stand in the middle of the Helipad and remember the original, and cry.

so many endless nights ended with this credit roll sequence....at one point i was able to blow through the entire game in just a couple hours (3h17s to be exact) when this sequence played there was always a part of me that gets left behind at shadow moses. if there ever was a place in a game that i would love to be real and visit that would be it; then Outer haven where ever that ended to be....
Damn after all these years that's still awsome .Ocelot is the central character of the series. Even if he's not the hero he's the only one to be present in all the episodes. The story of the saga metal gear is a reference in videos games

You know what i think there doesnt need to be any MGS movies as the games are like their own epic action adventure stories in game form in their own right like the Terminator or Rambo series and Solid Snake is The Terminator/Rambo/Kyle Reese etc of the series there doesnt need to be a movie version...Metal Gear Solid is the greatest action movie ever made but never put on screen.....dont know if that makes any sense to anyone but thats my opinion

This is my childhood in a 5 minute 21 second masterpiece of musicianship, the game was just so perfect. It even upsets me a little knowing, that I didn't fully appreciate the game as a kid, I could settle for the rest of my life just replaying this game. So amazing, major goose bumps when I remembered the name to this theme. My god, I hold serious respect for Konami for creating such a perfect series.
I love this. Its even better since this game is taking place in Alaska, witch is also my Home. Not many games use Alaska, im happy to see this game use such a beautiful place all around.

I think the lyrics go something along the lines of "do you remember back when the simple things made you happy? do you remember back when the simple things made you laugh?" It is kinda cool, though, playing a japanese game then hearing a song in it and realising "Oh my god - its being sung in my native language!!"

Yeah, i was in Russia only 8 years old when i first got Playstation from my step dad in us, the Us playstation would not play any russians games ever it wasnt designed that way, so i had Metal Gear Solid and some other useless game, me and my best friend beat this game every single weekend back then, it never got old, at my age it was challenging and exciting. Memories hurt hearing this song again...

MGS Is amazing... I feel the same as everyone here! The only difference is that i played MGS1 with 9 years and 4 With 10... I played them all and loved them... This game truly changed everyone lifes, I just feel sad for those who din't =/

This game is way better than MGS3 in my opinion. But still MGS3 is one of my best games possibly top 10. MGS1 is truely a great game.

Nothing to say, I always cry...I was a kid when i first played MGS. Now watching this video i finally understand the meaning of the whole game...animals free among beautyful places of this exhausted world. The music drives you into a lot of emotions, and the images are just awesome...it's the best game i ever played, the deeper, the meaningful. Thanx Hideo...

so many endless nights ended with this credit roll sequence....at one point i was able to blow through the entire game in just a couple hours (3h17s to be exact) when this sequence played there was always a part of me that gets left behind at shadow moses. if there ever was a place in a game that i would love to be real and visit that would be it; then Outer haven where ever that ended to be....

Damn after all these years that's still awsome .Ocelot is the central character of the series. Even if he's not the hero he's the only one to be present in all the episodes. The story of the saga metal gear is a reference in videos games

You know what i think there doesnt need to be any MGS movies as the games are like their own epic action adventure stories in game form in their own right like the Terminator or Rambo series and Solid Snake is The Terminator/Rambo/Kyle Reese etc of the series there doesnt need to be a movie version...Metal Gear Solid is the greatest action movie ever made but never put on screen.....dont know if that makes any sense to anyone but thats my opinion

Man I fucking love this song! I played it for my Girlfriend and she damn near cried. Then she punched me when I told her it was from a video game. Anyway, this game will always hold a special place in my heart.

This is my childhood in a 5 minute 21 second masterpiece of musicianship, the game was just so perfect. It even upsets me a little knowing, that I didn't fully appreciate the game as a kid, I could settle for the rest of my life just replaying this game. So amazing, major goose bumps when I remembered the name to this theme. My god, I hold serious respect for Konami for creating such a perfect series.

@wulfshelmut wulfshelmut - I'm really sorry to break it to you, but those aren't Native American flutes. They're Irish. The song is sung in Irish, or Gaeilge to be exact. I think the lyrics go something along the lines of "do you remember back when the simple things made you happy? do you remember back when the simple things made you laugh?" It is kinda cool, though, playing a japanese game then hearing a song in it and realising "Oh my god - its being sung in my native language!!"

@Myncu but..the gamecube remake was such a let down... -_-' weird added cut scenes, different voice actors. I wonder if a more stripped down remake would be possible. only refreshing the graphics and not adding the first person elements. I'd fancy that =)

When playing the Shadow Moses level in MGS4, and this song played. I was hit by a full force of Nostalgia and almost started tearing.
My uncle was watching me play (he introduced me into MGS) and he went to go smoke a cigarette.

This is, by far, one of my favorite games of all time, right up there with Final Fantasy VII. This is also one of my favorite video game songs. I thank you for sharing it. Now if only iTunes would take note of this and get the MGS soundtrack posted on their store.

Yeah, i was in Russia only 8 years old when i first got Playstation from my step dad in us, the Us playstation would not play any russians games ever it wasnt designed that way, so i had Metal Gear Solid and some other useless game, me and my best friend beat this game every single weekend back then, it never got old, at my age it was challenging and exciting. Memories hurt hearing this song again...

Ya' damn skippy. I teared up when I heard this song once again in MGS4. All the memories, its something that made it better with age. I think for it to be really special, one had to play MGS1 10 years ago.
