@zreejith wrong, wrong, wrong. you don't know what you are talking about. just because ravishanker has taken an ancient practice and claimed it as his own does not make it true. unfortunately dumb people like you carry on the lie.
I practiced this for some time, and immediately felt better and i am more relaxed now. I wish to have more information about self actualisation through meditation. can you help.
@happytohaveguruji You are wrong. This was not copied from the group you mention. It is a teaching of the tradition of the Himalayan masters, through Swami Rama. The "Art of Living" course is a commercial enterprise not based on the teachings of the masters. It is they who have copied.
OK, I have read all the comments and i know the video says to listen and not repeat the mantra out loud but aren't mantras supposed to be spoken like the "om monay padray hum" mantra (I know I spelled it wrong).
If not then what did they do 500 years ago before there were recordings; have someone stand there and say it for them?
Mantra is best remembered silently, internally. This is a very straightforward comment, and has be so for not merely 500 years, but thousands of years. When you hear an advertising tune or a popular song you like, isn't it true that before long it is going on inside without moving your mouth and vocal cords? It just goes on in your mind without singing it aloud. Similar principle with mantra. You'll have to practice this for yourself, unless your question is just intended to be argumentative.
I used to meditate with SO HAM years ago and now i noticed that i did it wrong. I was spelling "HAM" abruptly and not with this warm and resonant "MMMMMMMM" i figured that's why i never accomplished what i was seeking with this meditation.. i'm going to try again.
I love it! Do you think its okay to meditate with ear plugs in your ears ? Cause my house gets a little noisy theres never peace and quiet for very long.
Can anyone please explain to me the diference between so ham and hung sau(ham sa)?! Is there or it's the same mantra..some teache it inhale ham exhale so..thanks
I read this in a book by Parahamsha Yogananda. So ham means "I am he". It implies that every soul is essentially a manifestation of God, The Supreme Being. under normal conditions, human beings are not aware of this truth(awareness means realization not belief). According to Yogananda, only someone who has reached soul-realization(or Self-realization, the soul being the true self) is entitled to the chant SoHam. Until that time Hong Sau(HamSo) is advisable. Abhijit Roy
how is it possible inhale, say So.. then exhale, and say Ham... in my case its like... i inhale... say So.... then inhale again... say Ham... and after So Ham question do i need to be silent and just focus my mind on third eye or heart?
The instructions on the video are to remember the "So" SILENTLY in the mind while inhaling and to remember "Hum" SILENTLY in the mind while exhaling. When you hear "So" in the video, then inhale smoothly and silently, along with the sound. When you hear "Hum" in the video, then exhale smoothly and silently, along with the sound.
'So' means He and 'ham' means I. When you complete the inhalation and exhalation, feel that 'So' (namely the Lord) and 'ham' (namely 'I' i.e. (you)) are One.
Viewers of this video may like to be aware that some people see this mantra in a theistic way, such as schuncher sees it (referring to "So" as "namely the Lord").
However, as noted in the description:
Meditation on Soham mantra is a central mantra practice of Yoga Meditation. Soham is a universal mantra as it relates to the breath, and everybody breaths. SoHum is a Sanskrit word that means "I am that," or "I am that I am."
When I was in the middle of the meditation I felt a intensive heat and that a I was started elevated or that my "soul" it's a little upper of my body, this scare me a bit, but at the same way it likes me, is normal? it's the first time that a hear the video. The experience just take seconds, and then i feel relax. sorry my english. thank you for the experience
As said on the video, "This rate is ideal for relaxing the autonomic nervous system and also preparing for deep meditation." It also allows the heart to have its resting cycle, with heart rate slowing on exhalation. The recorded practice is meant for learning; it is preparation. If breath is forced to slow beyond comfortable capacity, there is nervous system arousal, which is the opposite of what is desired. As one progresses independently of the recording, the breath does naturally slow.
sorry for not listening correctly i hear now i pay full attention. srry i feel sorta stupid now all the info was right in front of me just couldnt see the forest for the trees. lol thanks for setting me right :)
When exactly do I shift from focussing on the diaphragm to focussing on the sushumna and then onto to the nostrils? In what ratio do I distribute the 40 counts of "So ham" over these 3 regions? Kindly elaborate. Thanks!
This is really nice. I've been really stressed out all day and after meditating to this for a while I feel a calm like I haven't felt in ages. Thank you very much!
This was the first time I've meditated in about 10 years and I feel a sense of calmness I didn't even know was possible. This is definitely something worth making time for each day.
Very good clear instructions for this meditation. I find the breathing a bit faster than I am comfortable with though. I suppose its OK to find ones own relaxed rhythm? Thanks!!!
The rate of the breathing is 6 2/3 breaths per minute (9 seconds per breath), which is optimum for most people. It is a rate that allows the heart and autonomic nervous system to have its resting cycle. Slower works fine for those with experience in meditation if the body is healthy. Faster is a limit for others. The pace on the recording strikes a middle of the road balance. Yes, one does find his or her own speed, and that comfortable level will gently become slower over time.

SO should be on the inhalation but in this video it is done as an exhalation. HUM is also an exhalation. I don't believe this is correct.
EarthCrone 2 years ago
Your comment is inaccurate. In this video So is clearly aligned with inhalation, not with exhalation. Hum is aligned with exhalation.

So - i am
Ham - spirit / soul.
Also - when inhaling SO , the enrgy goes to the 3rd eye removes the blocks and in the Ham the blocks are being grounded in the earth .
Thank you for your post - GOD Bless

As the recording instructs, "Allow the sounds to silently repeat in your mind, without speaking them aloud." "Silently" is the keyword.
