No, the escape hatch is directly above the tower. To be able to inspect the blade you have to climb on top of the hub via a top hatch in the front of the nacelle (housing). Lofty job!
I loved the video. Nice music. In the 80's I use to work in a plant that made the early blades. So I understand their consturction. I am looking a job oppurtuity that repair the blades. I am 48. Should I give it a try? Or move on?
Of course you can! Wind energy is increasing in every part of the world, and the technology is improving. This video shows a blade technician doing inspection from a rope, but we´ll see more use of lifts in the near future. Anyway, there´ll always be use for technicians, my advice is go for it. Exiting job and lots of fresh air!
you can use a telephoto lens for a camera but most of the time if a blade has damage you will know, it will whistle. you can also climb out on the hub and pitch the blades sideways to inspect them
Did he egress from the side escape hatch?

how do you inspect the blade, by going out on while its stopped, or do you use binoculars and inspect it from the ground?
