I didn't really care much for the presets. Get the editor (from dsi's site) and try to program your own sounds from scratch. To me that really opened up this synth's possibilities. It's one of my favorite synths, and it got such a great sound.
@astroboomboy uh yes, I understand you, but this video contains presets because the video intended to show just that, the presets. Anyway you're right, this synth has a huge potential creating sounds and exploring its limits, that was why I sold the desktop of the video a long ago and got the keyboard version, even funny to tweak with all those knobs. I really love and enjoy this machine very much, also one of my favourite too :)
@RanKirlian I'm glad you like it as much as I do? Do you have know any sites where we can upload and download patches made with the evolver? It would be great to create such a community if one doesn't exist already.
@astroboomboy maybe you can find a lot on the evolver yahoo group; I never joined this one, but it seems there are a lot of activity and users, also for other Dave Smith machines too
@vintagesynthlover yes,it can be used as external sequencer for other synths via midi. Btw I primary got this synth just for that reasson and I used to sequence a Nord Micromodular with it and worked pretty fine.
I just received the Evolver and the first thing I've noticed is that it doesn't have an ON /OFF switch. What I'm doing? Plugging - unplugging from source? pfffff... "awesome" :| I'll test it later and I'll post new comment and of course a review. Thx RanKirlian!
There are 512 fully editable Programs (4 banks of 128) and each program can store up to 4 sequences (not the 3 I said on previous answer). You can check full specs at Dave Smith Instruments website.
Another great vid! Don't know if I would get this desktop version, I made the compromise on the Virus TI Snow, but that has a great computer interface. Word on the street is this thing is impossible to program compared to the MEK.
@sweepstakes : no,it's the way evolver does delay.I almost sold mine just because of that.I kept it because it's a great synth esp. on the digital/fm modulations side. Isn't it weird, since the delaytime it's a destination for many modulators? Err..you want electribe-style,tape delay smooth delay, retrigger tipe?not on evolver, you don't.Such a shame.Use some other delay for that, for example, ableton's (v.8)
When you adjust delay time around 2:30 that the delay doesn't get resampled smoothly like an analog style delay but rather fizzes and pops. But I read the manual a little yesterday and it said delay time can be a modulation destination for LFOs, etc. and it sounds like what's happening around 4:15 here. When doing that does it behave more like a smooth analog delay? Thanks!
Hi: I just picked up my Evolver and your video has been helpful. I know how to scroll through sequences. How do you switch between banks of sequences? I'd love to see a video tuturial on how to use the Evolver. The manual doesn't seem so intuitive (of course I'm just getting my feet wet with this thing)....

This machine is not hard to use. There is a software editor also If you need more control.

Would there be any point in owning this as well as the Tetra?
Also is there much difference between this and the keyboard version?
Thanks.
