@kennjohnsen Well when I learned about engines that's not what they said. And if your right then what about the thousands of engines with cylinders opposite each other connecting to one crank are called horizontally opposed. Even steam engines that have two cylinders opposite each other connecting to one crank are called horizontally opposed engines. Maybe it's the fact their called "HORIZONTALLY" opposed not just "opposed" that explains this difference.
These types of engines are mostly seen in volkswagens and subarus. I also agree with the fact that you should have shown vavle openings but great job none the less
@APEZ94 They also use these Engines in Ferrari's,and mostly in sports cars,vertical pistons fight against gravity when they compress,and they have a balancing weight on the crank shaft to cut out vibrations,on these horizontal engines there is very little vibration,@ higher torque,BUT!,the cylinders do ware down over time and become slightly elliptical.
This is a half decent video, only thing I don't like is it doesn't show how the valves open and shut and in which order, and which valve on which cylinder is open at any given time.
Subaruuuu :)

Opposed engine ?
kennjohnsen 6 months ago
@kennjohnsen Opposed means that the cylinders are opposite each other.

@DAKOTA56777
This is not an opposed engine, an opposed engine means that two pistons work in one cylinder oppose each other. This is a boxer engine.

@DAKOTA56777
Well, they change the language all the time, to me an opposed engine is an engine with two piston in a cylinder opposed each other.
