  • 12 people are illiterate.

  • A series of unfortunate events is amazing. Im reading it probably for the fifth time four years later (at the age of 16). Only after rereading it several times can you catch most of the references and foreshadowing he packs into his novels. And the dark humor is awesome. For example, in the first book he references and island with forbidden fruit (the island from the last book). Love him.

  • yay more lemony snicket!!!!! i own all the books, including the beatrice letters

  • I love his books! =) I just finished the 10th one, "The Slippery Slope". I can't wait to see what happens! He is a total under-rated author. =(

  • wow. when i was a kid i actually believed he was totally anonymous.

  • i met him five years ago, when i was in 5th grade! he's great :) haha he told me to keep my doors and windows locked if i asked him any more questions than i already had..

  • im in 5th grade right now and i adore him you are so lucky to meet him i am reading them for my 2 time

  • His dark, tongue in cheek humor is addictive and delicious. Very funny.

  • the series is based on a tru story

  • @thisgurlisfunny No it's not, are you stupid.

  • LEMONYYYYYYY

  • i read the series of unfortunate events when i was 8 and re read them every year, theyre a part of my life now

  • Lemony snicket is planning to make a second movie about the series

  • Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler is an amazing, AMAZING author. I absolutely love The Series of Unfortunate Events. :) The End made me cry :L

  • I read & loved the Series of Unfortunate Events as a kid, and always thought Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler would be depressing/shadowy/mysterious in real life. But...he's so charming and friendly! Like the person you want to be around at a boring party. Wow, what a fun interview to watch.

  • Wow. He's actually funny.

  • LEMONY SNICKET REVEALED AT LAST! lolz.

  • lmao how does this guy have a "WIFE" he has such a gay voice lol

  • Because he's cool.

  • So is he Lemony Snicket or Daniel Handler?

  • @SpiderWoman14 Lemony Snicket was his pen name, a replace name, his author name. Daniel Handler is his real name.

  • Oh right, cool. I didn't know that. I'm surprised he showed himself after always like remaining a mistery person :P I really like A Series Of Unfortunate Events, their reall good books! Must read if you havn't...

  • Daniel Handler

  • @SpiderWoman14

His real name is Daniel Handler. Lemony Snicket is his pen name.

  • @SpiderWoman14

Sorry, scratch what I said. I didn't see that it was answered already.

  • dude i thought he was misrable !!!!!!!!

  • Totally underrated writer.

  • i ssooooooooooooooooo agree

  • Is he the brother of Kit and Zac Snicket, the uncle of little Beatrice, the man who loved the mother of Baudelaires?????????????

  • @JOANNA19893, not zac, Jacques.. yea, he is!! have a good reading!

  • @JOANNA19893 "the uncle of little Beatrice," What? I thought he was in love with Beatrice. That's why all the dedications in the books are to her. I actually thought Beatrice was Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire's mother...

  • @eye0lashes kit snicket has a kid and she calls it beatrice

  • @Godofthemagi Exactly. The tradition in the Baudelaire family is to name a newborn child after someone who has died. The Baudelaire orphans named Kit Snicket's child after their dead mother.

  • i love a series of unfortunate events there great books and he is a great author .... i am doing a presentation on him and the book basic eight look good

  • ok this was like 3 years ago and he said they'd make more movies and it's 2010 and where are the movies!!!!! GRRR i love these books and the movie but i CANNOT stand this!!

  • @mruthie45 The actors are too old, they won't be doing any more. At least, not in the same format. Might do stop motion.

  • is that really him?? i never thought he would show up

  • !!!!

    Madame Blatavsky[sp?] 5:20

I totally did know that. I read up on Theosophy last year.

  • My favorite author at the moment. :)

  • Wow he acctully appered I'm shocked

  • Daniel Handler's great. I went to a book signing by him, and he is AWESOME. He would talk to each person when you went up to get his book signed. He laughed and wrote that I'm a "Future Orphan" in his book.

    Awesome, sarcastic, wonderful. :)

  • In listening to this interview... it's really striking to me how similar Jim Carrey's performance as Count Olaf sounds to Handler's mannerisms!

  • Lemony Snicket is just the narrator

  • LEMONY SNICKET ROCKS!

  • I love his books!! The Series Of Unfortunate Events. amazing boooks!!Xd

  • he looks like major nelson

  • hm. he kind of reminds me of joss whedon, just in his inflections. weird...

  • Ummm...okay? That's random. And it's closet, not wardrobe. or wardrope.

  • Excuse me he is married. I myself am gay and can see how his voice sounds a bit gay but he is married. Do your research.

  • You're a forest dweller so you probably live in the forest fucking animals.

  • Beatrice, is his crush in real life but she isnt really called beatrice.

  • I have read the series once, except the end (currently reading) and now i am trying to read them over again. I own books 1 and 2 (Bad Begginging and Reptile Room) I Love that series!

  • Thanks to everyone that put such nice comments

  • WHAT! Is that you!

  • yes it is

  • i finished with the whole series. it was a great series

  • lemony snicket is such a cheesy name lol

    =D

  • If this is the real Lemony Snicket, then why'd they get a British dude to play his part as the narrator in the movie?

  • im on the 10 the slippery slope GREATEST AUTHOR EVR

  • im on the last aka "The End"

  • lol I just started Vile Village

  • im on book eight! the Hostile Hospital.. =DD ..Love the movieee

  • lol i read all of the books- finishing THE END a week after its release- im reading the last 3 over again so i tought i should find more about lemony snicket aka daniel handler.

  • Yeah! I've read the whole series twice.

  • It's such a disappointment to me..

Lemony Snicket to me seemed like a mysterious author, who's face we may never see and if we do not this guy..

It's just really disappointing after a series of unforuntate events, he just seems very real, not like a detective as he comes across :(

  • i was just about to post the same comment as u

its quite depressing lookin at the real lemony..in the end ill always look at lemony as the old beared long hair man who would never show his face:)

  • I've read the whole series. Is Lemony Snicket and Daniel Handler the same guy? I'm confused...

  • yes, yes they are

  • yes, the name lemony snicket is a pen name made by the author daniel handler.

  • well, Lemonny Snicket is in fact a character inm the ASOUE series...

Daniel Handler "takes" the place of that character in the books...

The author actually has a roll in this books, that's why is not really Daniel handler...

    :)

  • You bet your cheesecake on it!

  • My personal favorite is the 10th volume of the series, The Slippery Slope

  • i'm on the 7th book the vile village

  • My favorite is The End

  • "Because your parents have been killed by a maniac who wants the fortune they left behind.."

    WHA WHA WHAT!?

    I knew it.

  • haha. my fav is the austrere academy.

  • i liked it too! i like the reptile room the best so far ( on book 7)

  • Lemony Snicket was a name he used when he ordered pizzas instead of using his real name... I read that somwhere. Is it true he is going to write more lem snicket stuff and a new movie coming out? If so im psyched!

  • Those books are SOOO funny!

    He is an amazing writer

  • My favorite was The Slippery Slope :)

  • which book is that i'm on book 7 so i don't know

  • My 4th grade teacher told me I shouldn't read these books because they were really depressing. I thought they were hilarious.

  • is that the guy from man vs. food????

  • Lemony Snicket is awesome.

  • He's pretty funny.

    =D

  • omg i lurve lemony snicket but is that beatrice thing true? or is it part of the book? just wondring

  • I know! I was wondering about beatrice too! O_O

  • Well if you remember he also said he was chased by the cops, has many enemies and has been in a sword fight. So im guessing Beatrice is fake. Unless his wife really did die.....

  • Beatrice was actually the Baudelaire's mother, she married someone else because she thought Snicket had died.

    So yes, she is fake.

  • i thought beatrice is snickets old wife until she died oh and did you see the movie lemony looked so young

  • i really love his book!!!!!!!

    its awsome!!!

  • why is no one laughing in the audience? this guy is a freakin comedian

  • Oh! Lemony is just a psedonym!

  • He's so brilliant. His quirky writing style has seriously influenced me for the better.

  • Definitely. I was literally sad with the end of the Series of Unfortunate Events. I didn't know what to read next after an awesome series like that, lol. May look into more of his stuff.

  • yeah the series was so good, but i didnt care for the ending. it just didnt really satisfy me

  • It was interesting, to say the least. I still loved it. The ending was the ending. Can't do much to change it. :P

  • really I loved it you know how at the 13th chapter you think its over but then after all the thx to the edito theres the 14 and the at last you find out who beatrice is

    i loved it

  • AHAHA! I know! I honestly dont read that much, but I read the last few books real quick! I finished The End yesterday in 6 hours, but as someone else said the end didn't satisfy me :( at all.

  • *comparing voices from this to movie commentary* O_O

    OMG! It's Lemony!!! XD I'm a dope.

  • i'm listening to the commentary too

  • Wait, you thought he was real? Aww!

  • what i mean is you have to be older to fully grasp the humor of it and whole conspiracy and secret society theme.

  • yes i read the series in sixth grade and recently finished the whole series again and thinking about starting again haha. something about the story is so intriging and its even hard for adults to grasp it entirely so i was suprised these books are classified as childrens books.

  • i commented this before but oh well

i read ASOUE when i was younger and now that i'm older i've started reading the actual mr. handler novels and everytime i read one it's just like an old friend is telling me this story...hahaha,that sounds so lame but it's true!

  • I read this series in 3rd grade, and now i'm rereading them. Awesome books.

  • im on the fifth series of unfortunate events, he is the greatest author ever.

  • I know, the 6th, and the rest are amazing!

  • They are great, but they are very patronising to people that are not children. e explains alot of easy, basic words whichn makes the reader feel like a baby. They are good for people younger h

  • I think he uses the "patronising" tone in an almost ironic way. He always says "...which here means" uses it to sum things up in a very exaggerated way. His whole style of writing in the books is very exaggerated, which reflects the style of the world that he has created. It allows you to enter the mindset of this world with characters would seem ridiculous in the every day world.

There is an element of childishness but in a grotesque fashion like in some of Stephen Kings stories.

  • So true, well said.

  • the sixth is my favourite. 12 is my second

  • I LOVE his BOOKS!!!!!!!!! he is one of the GREATEST authors of the world!

  • He's awesome, haha! XD

  • wow this dude is awesome and so funny! i read his A Series of Unfortunate Events books! i think there awesome! Im on the 11th book and on page like 157. i think he is awesome

  • hey .. does anyone know what the VFD really is and who is beatrice.. is this stuff all made up or is it real and he wants us to believe its made up? i am so intrigued by this guy, he has a great imagination if its all fiction

  • VFD is VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, the secret anti-arson organization the Baudelaire parents joined. There are two Beatrice's. The first one is the mother of the Baudelaire children whom Lemony was in love with but didnt marry. The other Beatrice is the daughter of Kit Snicket whom the baudelaire named after their mom.

  • damn it u uined the book for me im on book 11 the grim grotto and the library's book is checked out damn you!

  • VFD stands for many thing first and originally stands for volunteer fire department and Beatrice is Kit Snicket's baby and the Baudelaires mother.

  • His books are clearly fictional..But awesome :) Ask me questions, I know alot of stuff ^^

  • ok uh....i have a ? !!!! ok..so is that daniel handler like a manager or something and lemony snicket is REAL?

  • Yeah hes the author of the book.

  • Are you the emily browning from thamesmede

  • Daniel Handler and Lemony Snicket are the same person. Lemony Snicket is the pen name Daniel Handler chose to use for the books he writes. All of his books go under the name "Lemony Snicket". So Lemony Snicket IS Daniel Handler.

  • Lemony is Daniel's alter-ego, I like to think!

  • he shops at the grocery store I work at,he is so down to earth and even funnier in real life. He's always in a great mood and is the nicest famous person i coulda hoped to me.

  • i would love to read his biography, he just seems so interesting, espeacially since i've grown up with his books since like...fourth grade!

  • It was really cool meeting Daniel Handler. He came downtown in a bookstore for a book signing. He said that he and Lemony Snicket were two different people. He explained that Snicket was not there because he got his armpit bitten by a beatle. He proceeded to give out Lemon crackers and snickers. Really nice guy. Very imaginative. Got his autograph and everything. I still wonder why he chose Lemony Snicket as his pen name.

  • I met him just yesterday (we went to the same high school) and he said the name came up as he was calling a Christian/right-wing company for a fake video. The caller asked for a name and he came up with it then and there.

  • Daniel/Lemony is a real inspiration to me. He turned me to more depressing story plots, such as the story about the girl whose dead sister comes back for revenge, and now I've just finished my very first novel for a competition. I would love to meet the man who expanded...my writing abilties (I suppose.) Seriously, you have no idea how lucky you are.

  • oh, finally mr.snicket! big fun for now! lol

  • i actually read all the unfortunate events books XD

    theyre okay

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???? this is lemony .. snicket? (sigh )

.... i thought of him as a tall skinny long nose guy that wore alot of black suits.. and super pale... (heh, i got a little carried away) >.>

  • same with me

  • yup me too. maybe this is really just daniel handler and NOT mr. snicket :D

  • so whos beitrice

  • There are two Beatrice Baudelaires:

Beatrice Baudelaire #1: The Baudelaires' mother, Lemony Snicket's dead lover

Beatrice Baudelaire #2: The daughter of Kit Snicket a.k.a. Lemony Snicket's niece

  • im 16 and i still think a series of unfortunate events was probably the best fictional book everrrrr ... it was so inspiring

hes such an under-estimated writer ..

    LMFAOOO SPOOKY RUSSIAN MUSIC AHAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • and i also love the idea that after reading the beatrice letters, the entire series, and the lemoney snicket bio thingy ... i still can't figure out all the secrets ..

  • i just started his 13th book THE END.

  • The composer is dead

    series of unfortunate events

    the wide window

  • what?

  • lol I'm Canadian and I didn't know of any Dutches lmao I gotta learn more about my country

  • a little wrong at the end.ishmael found the box,and then gave the ring to the baudelaires, and the baudelaries gave the ring to kit when she was having birth, and kit gave the ring to the baudelaires back, and told them to give it to their child.

  • Is this lemony snicket doesn't seem so

  • its hem.well lemony snicket isnt exactly real, his a fictional character (daniel made hem up) but this is the real lemony snicket. have a Very Fine Day.

  • lol V.F.D. :P (Very Fine Day)

  • I know! i SO imagined him to look differently.

  • he is quite funny.

and now i can't look at any of these comments because it's taking me forever to finish the series and i do not want spoilers.

  • which Kit gave to whooo???? lol ok thanks how do you find this info? The Snicket books are incredibly cryptic!

  • What that is not lemony snicket he is much different!Lemony is not married this is like someo other guy he seems much more happy!this is not Lemony!

  • lemony isnt real.hes a fictional character.daniel made hem up and started to write books that involved baudelaires and snickets, and none of them are actualy real.i wish they were though,it would be amazing.

  • yeah but it's fun to pretend

  • He's way too much like SXEphil

  • Wooooooahhhh!

He is NOT how i imagined Lemony Snicket to be ATALLL! :-| anyone agree?

  • i agree!!!

  • definitely agree. haha I've read all the Series of Unfortunate Events books and that is NOT how I pictured him. :)

  • wat book are they talking about in the begging?

  • "adverb"

  • he is my faaaaaaaaaaaaave author!!!

  • what? I-I I dont understand.. I thaught he would be.. I dont know different!

  • i love lemoney snicket he is the best author ever not kidding

  • Hes a lemony snicket. lol

  • Lemony.. Snicket.. him?

  • he has gained some weight. in the first lemoney snicket book in the back there is a shadowed pic of him with his hand on his chin ,and he looked pretty skinny

  • thats! a nice tie.....

  • i love his books they are addicting!

  • i'm also going to take a guess that maybe, just maybe he named 'The Duthess of Winnipeg' off of his editor from Winnipeg. AndI seriously don't think they should make any more movies. I think that this is the kind of story that is to be written and stay written. There are far too many mysteries to be solved. But i mean, if they do make a movie, it'll still be good.

  • And now I'm getting all really stupid and taking this whole book things o incredibly seriously that it's driving me crazy. But how can you NOT take it seriously? Wow.

    Okay. NOW I'm shutting up.

  • This is the most mysterious man in the history of mysterious mysteriousness men.

The Beatrice Letters...The Series of Unfortunate Events...somehow the mystery is solved yet unresolved. It's so incredibly strange yet so uncredibly genius. I need to meet this man. But you know, I mean, Lemony Snicket was just his 'character' and not really him. I mean, maybe he's into everything that he writes or maybe it's all a huge joke to him but I really doubt that it is. So now I'll shut up.

  • i HATE fiona. Fugly thingee.

    I wuffle the Quigleys ^.^

  • that's Lemony Snicket? is that really him?
