Blowing a steam whistle with compressed air's like how your voice goes on Helium. Steam being much denser than air, Titanic's Whistle would have been MUCH deeper originally. They need to make a replica and blow it with steam if people want to know what Titanic really sounded like.
Using air gives only a pallid hint of what it would've sounded like under expanding steam. Also seems as if the high bell was either not sounding, or very faint.
That's not exactly what it would have sounded like. when they sounded the horn they used compressed air, originally it should have used steam. (different density, like talking in helium) and they used half pressure cos they didn't want to break it.
Titanic's horn changes this sounds like the horn Titani has in Virtual sailor ship simulator 08 has a very loud version of this and in some olympic footage the horn is completely different its confusing?
@ChampionCurlin They actually blew it twice in Minneapolis at the Titanic exhibit. However they used compressed air and not steam as it was made for. I was there! :D
who cares where the sound came from, the fact that it maybe from the actual horn or it's another horn thats sounds almost alike, I am just satisfied that we have an idea what the horn sounded like back in 1912, I find that even extraordinary that that there is still a way of hearing the ship's horn

TheJoker38941 9 months ago
It's not a horn it is a set of 'triple-bell' steam whistles, hence the three notes chiming together.......
shangani743 10 months ago

Apparently it is real audio. They recovered the horn from the wreck and blew it one last time in the '90s. Just once though. This video repeats it.
