Man... Shihan Midori's got so a great control... just incredible.
And about the dress code... cut your sleeves to 2 or 3 inches before your elbow then roll it up 2 or 3 times, so it'll be short like a t-shirt, that way opponents won't be able to grab you by the sleeves, and it will still be long enough for formal presentations. And yes, baggy pants hide your feet and look good...
i do shotokan, but the techniques are the same, well, almost the same. I love karate, all styles for the same. I liked so much the video. yodan oi tsuki + chudan gyako tsuki + yodan mawashi geri is a good combination
When Sosai Oyama was still alive and kicking everyone elses arse around the dojo floor , the sleeves were already short but as for the pants they are quite new. The baggy pants are for hiding the feet.
Grabs holds were allowed in pre-kyokushin days. But was banned after Ashihara Sensei period as he was a real street fighter. He allowed grabbing throws and sweeps just like how Sosai Oyama used to train the earlier batch of karate-kas.
Osu, The reason the Kyokushin Style wears long pants is that not only does it look better, but can somewhat hide the foot and cloak it as it is launched and as such allows less reaction time from their opponent.
The short sleeves is for allowing the sweaty forearms to slide or deflect attacks to the midsection.
Originally sleeves was shorter in kyokushin because you could grab and hold a sleeve easier than you can a bare arm. Some kyokushin offshots that still allow limited grabbing (Like shidokan) have almost no sleeve at all, cutting it way before it reaches the elbow.
But yeah, it is also because it makes for easier movement.
they are called "born to be the strongest" in english and "Shin Kyokushinkai Saikyo wo Kiwameru Karate Nyumon" (some times misspelled "Shin kyokushinSkai saikyo wo Kiwameru Karate Nyumon" I dont know where the extra S comes from, but it is there in many catalogues and makes problem when searching) in japanese. whichever name or where they are sold, they all have english subtext.
They are available at budovideos, com and cdjapan,co,jp
You can tell the style of a karateka is kyokushin by looking at the gi. Kyokushi karateka seem to favor short sleeves, and very loose pants that reach all the way to their soles, covering their feet. I wonder why this is so. Other styles tend to have the pant legs only up to mid-calf.
ermmm... sorry for being a n00b...but kyokushin just rolls up the sleeves to make it shorter right? because i'm in kyokushin and my sleeves are longer than my arms!
well from shoto kan to kyokushin there is a lot of difference , the first one you can see is that kyokushin kumite is full contact while shoto kan it is not , kyokushin training is much more harder and if you want to see it for yourself go to a kyokushin dojo and train and then go to a shotokan dojo and train your body will give you the answer
Hey, I wonder if every brown belt need to do researches on kyokushin when they become blk belt, cause IKO-1 has to do research before getting their blk belt...i hope not!(but i did many research)
Its a good video serie. Its in 4 parts, not 3 as I wrote earlier.
No glorifying retired fighters, no propaganda, no documentary about old fights or masters, no formal kihon, no wasting time. Only straight kyokushin fighting technique instruction all through.
Brilliant! Im going to get the dvd (or all three that they are going to release, although only the first in the serie is out yet, no 2 is released next month).

With long sleeves this is not possible.

im sure the pants are big so kicks can be done easier and there is really no rule for sleeves being long or short, just preference.

Technically, there's very little difference between each branch. The groups split because of philosophical/political differences.
