I had the Masked Marauders LP (CDs were still in the future) in college, it had a cover of this song, and I assumed it had been written specifically for the LP--it was certainly loopy enough to fit in! I had no clue that it was a cover version! I like this one better because original black doo-wop is just about always better, and because I can hear the words more clearly!
