  • They really should have tried to stick with this format.... They could have gotten a lot of viewers in Atlanta over the past decade.... instead of the fast paced crime murder mayhem that is WSB

  • And here we see why the CBS Atlanta affiliate is dead last place in the ratings. And what makes this funnier is none of the hosts on this particular thing are even there anymore. That weatherman is in Texas somewhere and they replaced the weather people with sexy women. And even that doesn't help.

  • I still remember remember WGCL (formerly WGNX) as an independant station, and as "Georgia's News at Ten". I also remember WAGA as a CBS station, before the FOX/New World deal was carried out.

WATL affiliated with WB and MyNet after losing FOX... WATL is now the sister of WXIA (owned by Gannett). I'm not sure what WATL would have looked like, if they had affiliated with CBS... and whether or not viewers would have liked WATL as CBS.

  • The graphics really should be blue and white, along with the set. That would be way more aesthetically pleasing, and it would go with the theme of clear.

  • hey...this is better than now!

  • When I think of "clear" things, I think of soft whites and cool blues, not cheddar cheese orange and kelly green.

  • That opening and set makes my head hurt. lol Too much green. lol It feels like St. Patricks Day. lol

  • Makes it seem like it's a morning news show with all the slow graphics, I'm not saying it's bad or it's good.

  • ctmajka, what do you mean that the graphics are very WGN-esque?

  • I mean they share many of the same characteristics as WGNs pre-HD graphics.

  • "Clear News was awful"...

  • Sooo the chameleon that is WGCL is now "CBS Atlanta" again haha

  • I agree with Brent0788, WGCL sucks. They were much better off as an independent station. Affiliating with CBS was a bad idea. But, CBS really had no where to go in 1994 after FOX purchased New World Communications and switched over all of their stations to the network. FOX also destroyed WAGA. The only good TV station in Atlanta is WSB, the highest rated Atlanta TV station since 1948.

  • I agree. WAGA-TV Atlanta Eyewitness News was a solid product. WSB has always been a sold product. 11Alive lost its hayday when it dropped its classic logo and WGCL/WGNX was good when it was Georgia's News at 10.

  • I actually like the green, it's different

  • The graphics are very WGN-esque...thery're nice....if the set had more wqhite & less green, and the pacing was a bit quicker, I think this would've worked.

  • WGCL sucks.

  • These graphics are way better than the ones they have now. Very polished and contemporary looking. Hate the green set though. Their new graphics are crap and they play old ass music too.

  • Isnt the guy news anchor in Houston now?

  • Yes, he left CBS 46 Atlanta back in January 18the day before we had that Southeast snowstorm.

  • Easily my favorite graphics package of all time. Well done, WGCL, and shame on you for ditching it so soon.

  • Per the NMSA, clearnews was created specifically for WGCL (note that they even changed the call letters for the clearnews branding.) They are a basically pathetic attempt at a news operation.

  • As a new Atlantan (within the past year) Gene Norman is the only familiar face to me. I like the theme song (it's creative) but the pacing seems really slow, like this newscast belongs in a much smaller market.

  • Well, for today, Clear News would definitely be better for me. A refreshing look, no hard hitting tabloid headlines or L3s or everything else.

  • Actually, I'd like to see this format with all the fixings on WBBM Chicago.

  • I remember Jane Robelot when she is on "CBS This Morning" (now The Early Show). Now she's on WYFF-TV in Greenville/Spartanburg, SC.

  • I liked the graphics, set design, and theme music from the Clear News era (2001-2002)... Although it may have been liked by some, and hated by others.

  • Continued...

Wasn't too crazy about the 2nd CBS Atlanta era (2002-2003)... the graphics and theme music especially. The Atlanta's NewsChannel era (2003-2004) was entirely too tabloidish. The current CBS 46 era is somewhat okay, but was disappointed in the cancellation of the morning newscast back in 2005. I hope Meredith is considering plans to upgrade CBS 46 to HD before Christmas.

  • i like the music, very welcoming

  • "Clear News" must be the dumbest branding strategy ever. I thought "CBS Atlanta" was the smartest one they tried, certainly better than "CBS 46," especially since probably very few people watch them over the air.

  • I liked their graphics from then. They're new graphics look like something from the 80s. No wonder they're dead last

  • I love love love the green set. It's refreshing, something you don't see in TV and pleasing on the eyes

  • Clear News? Who's ideal was it?

  • It sounds like a marching band playing their theme...

  • The music was created by Dreamscape to the tune of "I Can See Clearly Now."

  • well, perhaps they saw the success of MCTYW and figured a marching band wasn't a bad idea.

  • Geez...with such a pithy critique, the fact that you missed the actual song underneith (I Can See Clearly Now), surprises me.

And yes, I arranged and produced the music for them. :)

    DreamScape Music

  • I always thought it was a unique package, and well done. I think Clear News could have caught on, but WGCL is so anxious for a turnaround that they don't stick with anything long enough to become familiar.

And if you did compose the music, you should put the old clips back up under the Clear News demo!!

  • They chose lime green for their set?!

  • Very risky proposition, especially in a large market like Atlanta.
