Your Op. 64 No. 2 - you DEFINITELY need to slow that sucker down. You play like an Asian robot. Compare your performance to that of Evgeny Kissin and learn.
What I find strange is that when someone is at a nice level of playing an instrument he/she gets a lot of negative comments. When someone really can't play then it's "well done, wish I could play like that etc". I'm not saying the comments are incorrect. Anyway keep up the good work!
watch this: watch?v=RV-l8GG_mEs and compare the differences between the two performances. He has the TECHNICAL know-how, but he lacks the emotional depth and the dynamic range that this song commands of him. I'm sure that he is MORE than capable of (re)producing it, but he needs to produce it in the first place.
@alpha754293 you're illustrating my point exactly :-) First, I absolutely agree on the fact that this performance lacks the emotional depth and dynamic range. However what I'm trying to say is that people who have a some years experience on their instrument and show this, commenters compare it always with the big names. But when someone can't hardly play a note on Youtube he or she gets lots of compliments. Just my 2 cents.
@xpwieki Well...there are probably others out there that play it beautifully. That's the beauty of YouTube - to make a LOT of people aware of otherwise unknown performers/artists. Having said that though, I've done speed/cannonball runs too on songs. (Usually +10%). That way, it's to play/practice/blast through it so that when I get nervous, I'll normally slow down anyways...but I haven't tried it with this piece...yet.
@alpha754293 Indeed, the great advantage of youtube is, that I can listen to pieces of music (in this case Chopin) before I practice the songs. Although Chopin is a (perhaps too) great challenge for me.
I don't know a bit about classic music about piano and about Chopin and I don't know if he played the right note and the right tempo but until I watched this performance did I fall in love with classic music, with piano and with Chopin.
Karing888: First I applaud you for your ability to play at such a level and secondly to record it and brave enough to show it to the public.
My honest opinion are; You seemed have rushed it at the start and at some other points. There were some parts where I felt could have played a bit softer. The parts where I thought that was suppose to be rush should be done at a moderate and accelerated pace. I would have thought the new classicals would have alot more mood swings. :) good job!!!!
slow down! play it slow until prefect then speed up, right hand in the beginning not right, rest good! don't pound the keys! treat like tender loving.........
Well, u r talking about the speed all the time... Like on the description u said black key is the fastest u can do... I just don't suggest u rush through the whole piece in order just to tell people : "look, I can play jay chou's piano pieces" jay chou's piano skills r not even considered good compared to the real pianists, and I hope u can get rid of that and learn some emotions and feelings to reach what people call "true music"..
My humble opinion: i'm sure you very good at playing Jazz & Pop, just that this is a romantic period piece, and you're banging the keys (honest comment)...
Assuming you wanna do a Jay Choy cover then that's fine, but the score you're playing from is the original version, so i think you gotta stick to a more romantic style.
My humble opinion: i'm sure you good at playing Jazz & Pop, just that this is a romantic period piece, and you're banging the keys (honest comment)...

Playing music is no matter of technique.. Its JUST music..The technique just has to follow it and if some notes ares missed I ll say ok thats not a big deal, but this is NOT music
Listen to some real pianist such as Rubinstein who about some so called virtuoso pianists said somethiing like 'I could never play what they d, this is impressive, but When are they going to play music?"
Anyway nice technique, but please don't destroy Chopin like this.. Try Czerny... this needs less feelings..
Ok. You are just trying to imitate those two guys from movie, "secret."
I'm impressed with your swing technique and how fast you can go.
But its not the speed that makes your song good.
When you listen to it carefully. Because of the speed. you miss bunch of harmonies. Like its off beat. You hav to make it better by just feeling your heart. passion.
Well, this is how Jay Chou played the part of the piece so the interpretation is correct in that regard. Especially since Jay Chou is included in the video title.
u need to have feelings in order to play well.ur tempo is wrong.need more practice.and do not RUSH.play it slowly if u are not familar with the notes.trust me although i am only 10 years old
Well, it depends on how you feel that piece to be interpreted. Personally, I DO like this tempo. Part Più mosso I play even more faster... Good job, man!!!
I'm playing Chopin from this book called the Joy of Chopin, and I'm trying to learn the second piece... if anyone has the same book? anyone plz tell me the name it is like a waltz... I'm 13!!!! =]
cool, I like that because it shows like improvising a little bit like I do with my work. To get to my work type in MrJdude123 to see me doing Für Elise on the piano.
Karl! This is fantastic! I like it a lot. but, where are the dynamics? I just love this song, I wish only that you would upload a version with better dynamics.
u add emotion between the song i can hear that, in the middle is very great, but look out rhythm, in the middle very fast and not stable, u can do it better if you focus that. Overall quiet good i get the song's meaning, try again!
i play this song too, jus a little tip, dont jurk ur hands, u jerk ur hands way to much, be more gental... and try not to make the beginning stakato, cuz it sounds better with allegro :)

Critics are important, you need to understand that first.
Some are assholes, not critics. Some of the critics here could be much better than the guy who's playing, or maybe they're trying to tell the pianist on what he can improve on. So how's that so hard to understand?
Critics help players to get better, period. Unless they're assholes, but this is a public site, so you're bound to meet assholes every now and again.
Pretty good technique, but you just do not feel the music, you're just playing - sometimes only flapping the keyboard. - what a shame. Technique ist not everything. ;)
Your hands have a strong and sure touch. Your love of the music you are playing is quite evident to me. I like listening to your interpretations!
I understand the suggestions that others are making here and I hope that you are taking them as they seem to be intended: as constructive ways to improve your dynamics. Your talent is truly great and I assure you that time will satisfy your audience's desire for more emotional expression. I wish you well!
the trills are a bit messy, and the transitions are too sudden. however, overall is pretty good. try slowing down the tempo a bit and soften the tone.
Slower.. more feel... i think you rushed it ... AYAYAYA kid!!...

Karlng, your skils are remarkable!

In my opinion you were forcing the keys too hard, not enough contrast in expression, as if just purely to show off .... though it is just my opinion
