What are the minimum power supply requirements for this card. I have been trying to find the right card with out having to buy a new power supply. I currently own a 250 watt power supply, will that be enough?
dude this card pulls like 60 watts, get a 400 watt psu, and this DOESN'T need 6 pin pci-e connector. and if u have a 250, u prob have a store bought comp, dont bother upgrading it, just stick with ur current comp for a year THEN, build a completely new one ur self, and put a RV800 core card in there with the new 32nm Intel chips, which will come out in a year or so anyways.
I have an XFX 8800GT XXX 670mhz Alpha Dawg I purchased to satisfy my curiosity about what everyone was raving about about...
Its a piece of crap!! and no its not my particular card coz i bought 2 for SLI and sold 1 and I have other friends who have bought the same card since against my advice
So Yeah, the 2nd one is up for sale now and have put my 2900XT back in which pwns it and yes I have a 3870 too which my 2900 also pwns
Does this dude give his recommendations to every product? Kick ass this- Great product that- basically it does not let me trust his review and recommendations for anything because every product gets some kind of award from him...weak dude..weak...
I have the AGP version of this card. It is really awesome. Going to put another year or so of use into my aging Mobo. I don't think I'd buy it for PCI-E though because there are much better ones out there for generally the same price.
8800GTX is not a good solution for money. Get 8800GTS new! not the old one thenew that one with 128 str pocessors IT smokes 8800GTX when ot is overclocked . It priced 100 buck less than GTX. Or if you want a real performance in the next month Nvidia 9800GTX will come out! thats right 9800GTX!
they test all these games at absolutely insane resolutions, are they TRYING to make them unplayable or what? i say give results for common gaming resolutions because that's what people are going to use on it (like 1024X768 and 1280 X1024)
Overclocking it!?! There ABSOLUTELY NO need to overclock an HD3870 at least for my resolution (1280x1024) although now that you mention it... maybe I will just have EVERY filter on at its limit... YEAH THANKS!!! I'll use RivaTuner maybe...
And on Crysis GPU benchmark 64Bit Directx10 Very High 1280x1024 I got 16Fps avarage from 14
And on High i got 27 from 25 :\
and on Low i got 70 from 64 :) (but the visuals sucked) any thats a fine fps cause you DON'T fly around the island at light speed all the time in the game...
Please listen people. There are actually three versions og 2900XT. First one which is the standard version has 512 GDDR3 and 1650MHz speed. I would compare that one with 8800GTS 320 GDDR3. And then the Second which has 1 GB GDDR4 and same speed as the first. I would compare that whith 8800GTS 640 GDDR3 and 3870. And the third has 1 GDDR4 and speed of 2000MHz. I would compare that with a OC version of 3870 and this card is also very close to 8800GT.
Those 3 cards you mentioned are all very similar in performance because memory clock affects it really poorly. After I jumped from 1200MHz on mem to 1800MHz, I gained only about ~6 - 7% of performance.
The TILES were 3D ZOMG!!! SOOOO AWESOME!! /sarcasm DX10 is a joke as of now, i think of it as a SLIGHT upgrade from DX9. On paper, it is like 10x more efficient and all, but really.... come on.
I just bought one of these. Not as bad as he says....My OC core 2 and water cooling, PC8500 ram helps boost its performance. I just like it cuz it can be OC and directX 10. other than that, im a lite gamer.
Sapphire HD 2600XT GDDR4 is the best if you want to buy this card trust me...card is much better tha 8600GT/GTS and much more options...ATI is finally get what he want and when 7.10drivers come..card will be faste all HD 2000series!!!
With the new line of ATi cards.. you want the XT model for gaming, or the PRO model for hi-definition playback. Example: The 2600XT core clock is 800MHZ where as the 2600Pro is 600Mhz. Dont bother with an overclocked Pro because the XT is still faster(This card's clock is 650Mhz) YOu can get an XT for around 50$ more.
I agree, overall I have much better experiences using NVidia cards (and software). By the way, I'm amazed they still have cooling fans, Rodney. I pick my cards based on silent/passive cooling, there are many out there now.
he reviewd the crappy 2600. it only a score of 2400 in 3dmark06. i have the 2600xt 512mb, which is wayyy better. gets a score of 5500 in 3dmark06 and has a 830mhz core clock and 1.86 mhz ram. and only cost 180$, he should have reviewd mine.
yea the 2900 blows the 8800 away in 3dmark, plus there cheaper. the 8800 came out over a year ago, its old news, there already designing the 9 series for 2008. and even the 9 series wont be as powerful as the 2900.

Wrong. 3870 is about the SAME or up to ~5% better then the 2900XT. Check out the benchmarks on anandtech.

There is no 2900XTX, only the 2900XT, which performs better than the 8800GTS (both the 320MB and 640 MB versions) in many applications.
Show me some benchmarks that prove me wrong and I'll apologize.
