Most of the released Beatles songs were written by Lennon & Mc Cartney, but Harrison wrote lotsa songs that were never used, but the ones that were were brilliant. While my Guitar Gently Weeps, Here comes The Sun(also covered by Richie Havens),Across The Universe & others. The Beatles were The Beatles,Lennon was Lennon, Harisson was Harisson(both dead),Ringo is Ringo, Mac is Mac, & Richie Havens- Richie Havens. You cannot compare between these people.
Répondre à cette vidéo... Richie opened Woodstock, no small thing. Not just anybody got invited to do that. At that time, he was a "Protest Singer" like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan etc., but I prefer "Freedom Singer" in Richie's case.
Some people think he murdered the Beatles covers, but I bet the "Fab Four" were proud to be covered by him.
@Simbai69 George Harrison wrote this song. It first appeared on Abbey Road. Get your facts right before you comment. All Mr. Havens did was murder the song, but it's not his fault. He has no discernible talent.
@Kaalec o.k. I made a mistake,so you can stop breaking my balls. As regards the "no discernible talent" comment, you need a brain transplant(and make sure they connect your ears)
hmm - if your point is that Havens only does covers, that's true - but so did nearly all other folk singers of the period - the point of the music was to return to roots, to earlier, purer music - depends on what you mean by talent. Hell, for a black man to sing folk was a risky career move in those days anyway, give him credit for having balls enough to go there - he made a successful career of it. If you don't like the folk sound, that's legitimate, but just a matter of taste - no offense
Arapinha I would like to see your comment. Dont fear the peeper, the cheeper or the Griper (swiper no swiping, swiper no swiping, swiper no swiping) as some would rather take offense than hear what is meant. Has this been the case?
Everything: his voice is black, his style is black, his vitality is black. I know that for a simpole reason - I'm white. LAuren Hill's voice isn't comparable to Britney Spears, and Aretha Franklin just wasn't compartable to Judy Garland's. It's not that they were better (incidentally, they were); but they were fundamentally different. If your question suggests that my comment is ultimately racist. It is. I have always thought that black people are far superior to white people.
@crazyskater4 It is not the colour of a person's skin, it the culture in which he or she is raised in. Black people in America has a different experience, a different perspective and different hopes that white America. It has informed their music, their art, their literature. I believe they have enriched western culture. Except Mr. Havens. I have never cared for him to me, he's just a wannabe. Prefer BB King, Taj Mahal, Robert Johnson, Howlin Wolf, Sly Stone, more.
i thought u danced with mac davis and he whispered something naughty in your ear. i really wasn't worried about you messing up my face when you drove me around. peace

He did write the song, all on his own. I don't know what Wolfen is talking about... I mean, the Beatles (minus John) did record it, but George wrote it...
@1Shmoo1 ritchie used to have an electric guitar player playing solos around him meanwhile donavan goes on the pete seager tv show and says he mastered the sitar in 3 months ravi heard that and said he has been playing for 30 years and he hasnt mastered it yet [justin hayward said he picked up the sitar because he heard a group indo jazz fusions with ravi shankar that was somebody else good sitar player on that joe harriot record but not a super virtuoso like ravi ,crosby told harrison
I just saw richie at lewiston n.y. 2 hours ago...it was very fun..he did "love is alive" by gary wright it was so cool "my love is alive my souls like a wheel thats turning" and of course "here comes the sun"
well I'd say Richie sings real sweet

Richie does a great rendition of this song. It's too bad the video cuts off before it's all done.

It's actually composed by him, most people think it was the Beatles tune because they covered it, but give credit where credit is due.

And, to complete my answer, I'm removing my comment to avoid having to deal with such naive, silly, stupid questions. Mr Heavens will understand.

Ravi Shankar tought George Harrison to play sitar. You can hear it in Norwegian Wood, Within You/Without You and others.
