  • are you coler blind that was red

  • What episode it this??

  • @Panguu2 This was from Season 3 Episode 5

  • There are only two car brands .... Mercedes and others ...

  • Anyone remember the episode, where they bought trackday-cars and nobody wanted to believe May, when he said, that this is one of the best chassis ever made? Well, mister Hammond..

  • @dwightlight topgear always do that thing .such there's a drama behind it .

  • just bought one as a winter beater 89 benz for 700$ TOP SHAPE nothing wrong with it :D

  • Most European Fords are built in Austria, but they are designed and originally built in America.

  • @boldbulkhead

    Geez, we have another one!

So let me get this straight, all the european Fords were designed in the US then? And built there originally too? Rubbish!

What about the Dagenham plant in Essex, England? Designing, developing and building Fords specifically for the european market since the 1930's

Ford UK designes and develops it's own cars. Ford of Germany used to produce different cars again, until the end of the 1970's into the 80's when models were shared.

  • @R1CH130 i'm very sorry, i wasn't aware of that. Plus i meant some, not all.

  • @boldbulkhead

Ok buddy, sorry if I was a little harsh with you!

I was a bit wound up because a couple of other posters were determined to try to wind me up and tell me I was wrong!

At least you've apologised, which wasn't necessary, and admitted that you didn't know that.

The other two ignorant plebs just think they know it all lol

    No offence was intended :-)

  • @R1CH130 no offence taken!

It's just nice to get corrected sometimes.

But i totally understand you, people can be so annoying sometimes, when they think they're know-it-alls :-)

  • @boldbulkhead Well, it's quite refreshing to talk to someone like yourself who is happy to be corrected. I am happy to be corrected myself if I'm proven wrong, but some people just get all crazy and refuse to admit they're wrong!

I don't proclaim to be an expert on cars, but I know what I know from 30 years of living cars, breathing cars, you know.....they are my life! Plus, I also spent time in the car trade selling them too, so had to know a lot. But hey, I don't know everything

  • @boldbulkhead I haven't seen someone apoligizeing on youtube for well its had to be the first one ive ever seen its nice to know the internet has some decent people

  • James may bought the same mercedes cosworth for a challenge and said the same thing hammond said Racing gear best rear chassis

  • lol @ the retards talking shit about something they know nothing about. Both trolls and both clueless. No use me wasting my time trying to educate the morons.

  • First will be the Bettle then the golf. Not the Corrado. Not every classic needs to have high horsepower.

  • O SHIT !!! 4:21

remember when james had the same car in the challenge ?

he talked to brundle on the phone and brundle said he didnt remember saying that :P

  • @rastamees Yeh, I thought that too lol

  • I think I've just fallen for that VW. :O

  • @simplecoffee And i for the Merc . I mean its superb , just that if the brake lights would be the square model ones of the c 500

  • @motanelustelistu Yes, both are rather subtly beautiful - and somehow contrive to be droopy and adorable at the same time. 'Twas the decade, perhaps. XD

  • yah i thought you were talking about supercars so i switched topic

  • btw the first car to reach 200 is american its dodge charger in Daytona and its a true classic

  • @MemphisPrime Nope, it was the Mystery aka "Sunbeam 1000 hp driven by British driver Henry Segrave back in 1927 and desinged and built by Sunbeam in Wolverhamtop, England.

Every other record since, bar none, for "wheel driven" cars has been by British built and designed cars, including the first over 300mph in 1937 and the first over 400mph in 1964. Look up Bluebird, Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell.

Since 1983, all top land speed records have been held by the British too :-)

  • Import that Corrado to Australia and you'll have yourself a car that's rarer than a Ferrari.

    Geez, I want one!

  • Only classics that actually look good and are fast are American and from 1964-73 not regular mustang though only boss or mach1

  • @MemphisPrime Looks are completely subjective.

Also, classic supercars are MUCH faster than old muscle cars.

  • @HFLanciaStratos depends on what classic car your talking about a 1970 monte carlo with a 474 ci engine could beat those super cars

  • @MemphisPrime Putting a big engine in a car ain't gonna make it turn corners.

  • @HFLanciaStratos putting a small engine in a car aint gonna make it go fast gt40 was the fastest during that time it beat all the cars and it s american

  • @MemphisPrime Yeah, it had a lot more than just a big engine though, it had a Lola developed chassis I believe. No doubt it was (still is) an amazing machine, but it was far from a muscle car. More a race bred supercar.

  • @MemphisPrime Developed in the Lola factory in Bromley, England no less, then by "Ford Advanced Vehicles Ltd" in Slough, near Heathrow Airport from 63 onwards. It's only part American but mostly English in design. It was also built in England since it was mainly competing in Europe to beat Ferrari, why build it in the US?

  • @R1CH130 ford is an american company therefore its an american car

  • @MemphisPrime europe still gets all the good ford cars!

  • @kobimzr europe has the same fords as america has the only difference is the name

  • @kobimzr no America has many more models that europe doesnt have the models that america does not have and europe has have failed at selling and are not good enough to sell in america

  • @MemphisPrime its not about the quality really, its just an entirely different market. First off, the prize of gas has always been much lower in the states due to higher taxes in europe, and the modern american built environment has been centered around the use of personal cars from the beginning. The american market just has different preferences than the european.

  • @autoexec2000 the price of gas will never affect a car lover the market does change in different regions but if talking about sales its about the consumer if talking about quality its all about the car

  • @MemphisPrime

No it's not. If it's designed and built in the UK, then it's a British Car. The Ford GT, built in Detroit, is American.

Ford UK is a UK company. No one in their right mind would call any of our English Fords, American just because the parent company is American.

I can see it now......a Ford Sit-up-and-beg Pop being called an American car lmao or a Cortina, or Fiesta, or good old XR3i Escort.....yeh, very American!

  • @R1CH130 are you calling ford british? ford is american and every car they make is american same thing with toyota you cant call a toyota american just because it is built in america

  • @R1CH130 your retarded. fords are designed and built in america.

  • @thejoshh69

    Not all of them mate.

Try reading up on the subject before you post as it saves you looking like a plonker lol

  • @HFLanciaStratos also i bet you a shelby cobra could beat those classic supercars

  • @MemphisPrime

Oh yeh, the shelby Cobra.....good choice, designed and built originally in England by AC Cars, hence AC Cobra.

All Shelby did was use the English car and chuck a big engine in it. Not exactly hard to do!

Awesome car never the less, but since you seem to be on some mission to prove that America is best, I thought I would bring that small point up ;-)

  • @HFLanciaStratos although cobra is virtually undrivable it is still faster

  • @HFLanciaStratos also if you want classic supercar how about a gt40 it was better then all the euro cars of its time

  • @MemphisPrime lol If you say so mr car expert.

  • I think the new mustang 302 will become an instant classic

  • i own a Corrado VR6 and a Cabrio with a VR6 swapped. corrado has 200k miles i put on and not one issue or failure other than the normal suspension wear, same with the 120k cabrio with 50k on the VR6 i threw in. VW's are very picky. maintain them PROPERLY and youll never have an issue. That benz is a rare bird too.

  • I would never trade my 1994 Probe for that VW junk.

  • cant find the 190e cozzy here in the us! There's the occasional 2.3 2000 miles away and overpriced, with US spec engine and headlights.. ugh

  • a 190e was my first car...i sold it for a 2001 jetta o god....i i ended up with a vw R32 witch is amazing but i want my 190 back for a daily driver god damn it

  • so martin brundell did say that after all?

  • @robben896

    yea

  • @topgearfan1997 im confused about it , why did he say otherwise on the phone with James?

  • @robben896 Nah, this episode is quite a bit older than the one where James makes that claime too, and it's proven that he didn't say it after all lol

  • 2:23-2:30 Better than climbing out from over-tuned Civics, Corollas and Fiats, Mr. Hammond.

  • everybody says how good the bmw m3 is and that mercedes cars are for old people. i disagree. the m3 must be awesome, but so is the mercedes 190e. i have 2 audis, an a4 quattro and a 1984 ur quattro coupe. i must say i love the mercedes 190e, if i find a good one, maybe i'll buy it. hopefully i will be able to find one in canada. i love german cars! cheers rob

  • @sharpanator- Yes, there are different grades of plastics, but Audi isn't the example I'd go with- They cover most of their plastics with a thin latex or rubber coating instead of paint, chrome, or false wood grain. Peel back the cover, it's still plastic. However- and this is aimed at @childof1988- I would rather have plastic in some spots, so that the manufacturer can spend money making best of important stuff like- Engines, Gearboxes, Brakes, Suspension, etc.

  • whats the song at 3:50 anyone?!

  • hi mate. did you found that song ? :)

  • o shit did you see that guy run 3:26!!!!!!!!!

  • 3:22, all of those people are idiots!!!!

  • On the other side of the pond... it seems like those "classics to be" are like trucks. What else do an old lady commuter, police car, midlife crisis, and pony car have in common besides the V8 and F-R configuration?

  • The only 90's coupe that's not completely embarrassing? The Fox Body 5.0 was one of the manliest cars ever built! Maybe they didn't sell that one in Europe.

  • well, the VW didn't sell well and wasn't well known so I doubt it would work but the Mercedes, well it's a limited edition with a rally tuned engine and chassis so that's a classic

  • This Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 is such a great car: A DREAM

  • @Anydinosaur no way man, Corrado is way better and faster

  • @sharpanator In my opinion, the volkswagon is lame. And that's not a great mercedes either.

  • @sharpanator My point is that this car is lame. I meant crush, in terms of how fast the cars got from 0-62. And I do miss something totally, THE LATE 60's WHEN CARS WERE COOL!

  • @sharpanator let me give you some numbers here. Chevrolet camaro: 5.2 seconds, Ford mustang: 5.4 seconds, Porsche 911 turbo S: 3.3 seconds, Mercedes CL65 AMG: 4.4 seconds. . . Other sports cars crush this thing.

  • I've got a 190 E Mercedes it's not a cosworth though...

  • In the video, Richard Hammond quotes the Corrado as being 'cobbled together' from parts from the MK2 Golf at the front and Passat at the rear. This is untrue.

All Corrados except the VR6 are mechanically based on the MK2 Golf. The VR6 is mechanically based on the MK3 Golf abeit with detail changes to the engine. All suspension springs are unique to the Corrado.

I would question the existence of ANY Passat specific parts on the Corrado apart from the 2.0 16v engine and a few interior parts.

  • 320bit - You are a true cretin.

Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience...

    ;-)

  • @sharpanator think the origional mini is probably the ultimate classic car... saw one near a garage near me on a p reg i think for £8500!!! that was at a citroen garage called broach hill in hutton cranswick they were nowhere near that price when they came out... very very few cars can raise in price like that

  • @sharpanator i agree with the opel/vauxhall vx220 yes i think that will. the focus rs will be because its the first production fwd car to produce over 300bhp.. the honda s2000 because its the highest revving 4 cyl engine voted car of the year many times, the clio v6 i think will also make a future classic maybe not sure what you recon? and lexus is200?? cars that will go down for been not so good - vectra vxr lol..

  • i bet a volvo c30 t5 will be a classic in the future

  • @Anydinosaur I'd prefer the BMW E30 M :)

  • adverts!!!!!!

  • @Anydinosaur cuz you never drove the vr.

  • I'm not gonna lie i've always wanted a mecedes-benz 190 E Evo 2

  • in my opinion the mercedes 190E is the best looking car ever.

  • corrado is the best!

  • i'd prefer the VW Colorado

  • @Muha168 colorado?

  • @Muha168 What car is that.

  • OMG, Corrado!!!

  • The 190E Cosworth is trash. It was big and slow with a small engine. Mercedes must have been on drugs to think they were gonna do anything with that car, with a 0-60 of nearly 8 seconds its a laugh to be called a sports saloon.

  • @320bit You are stupid as hell. The 190E Cosworth 2.5 Evo II is already classic, maybe it's not very quick, but quick enought to compare to the e30 m3 and from 0-60 in under 7 second is good for a early 90's car. No very few car? Mercedes 500E, Audi S2, Audi RS2, Lotus Omega, Alpina B10 Biturbo, BMW M5 E34 3.6, Mclaren F1. You talking shit. You must be from the states.

  • @SuperSedans In under 7 seconds? No, it was rated at 7.5 seconds. Which is not much if any faster than my 97 C280.

  • @320bit yes The 2.5l M3 with 238hp engine goes in under 7 second, same as the 190E 2.5-16v Evolution II Cosworth 232hp goes in 6.8s. Your Merc is 8.0s to sixty if you look at factory sheet. And what you compare a W201 to a E30 the most successfull car in the touring championship. The base 192 hp M3 with 2.3l has 7.5 seconds. Look at the prices that both cars are achieved - it's still raising.- so they are classics. This M3 and Merc is one of the best cars from this two brands. ever made

  • @SuperSedans Well no, it still doesnt do 0-60 in under 7 seconds.

  • @320bit Top version of the m3 and 190E cosworth do. Base cars are not.

  • @SuperSedans If you want a future classic from Mercedes, look at the C32. Still an amazing and fast car for its size and small engine.

  • @320bit The C32 will be never classic, It's not that rare, Classic Benz is R129, W124, W140. The best Mercedes there was. The C32 is simple a good car with a strong engine but there is nothing in it, that is so rare.

  • @SuperSedans It doesnt HAVE to be rare to be a classic. As they said, thats only one box to check. Its beautiful car, and its quite interesting given the fact it has a small V6 engine producing about 350hp and weighs around 4500lbs YET it can do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and top over 185mph. That, and it was by far the fastest 4 door saloon of its day and was even faster than most super cars of its day.

  • @320bit sorry man, but C class is no way beautiful, it's rather ugly.

  • @SuperSedans It was faster than a corvette, viper, and a porsche 911 and it was a luxury sedan with 4 doors and ample trunk space.

  • @320bit sorry man 97 C class is a total crap.

  • @magirktheone Better than the 190 cosworth by a mile.

  • Fact is, theres VERY FEW cars from the 80s and 90s that will EVER be classics. And there isnt any in this video. During the 80s and 90s, car companies were all caught up in "fuel economy" that they went from fast sports cars to square boxes with horrible engines.

  • What is a KOO-PAY!?

  • why not a w124 500e???

  • @YiMMA2k5 too expensive

  • Is he on crack? 0-60 in 6.7 seconds is SLOW AS HELL.

  • @PHELCAN this movie was made in 2003 so a car then thats pretty decent back in 92 it was unheard of to be doin that in a car that small, it was also the first vw to break 150 and stuff like that. The car really superbs on handling and stuff. If the first gear on this thing was faster like how it is when its in the high 2nd gear and 3rd gear it would probally be like a 3~5 sec car

  • @brothersretailers Just because it's a good volkswagon, doesn't mean it's a good car.

  • @PHELCAN Not many cars make a magazine named of the top 25 cars you must drive before you die.

  • @brothersretailers and yet it gets cancelled 3 years after being put into production ( 3:13 ) The thing is a slow, plastic, box, just like every other car from the 90's. And if ferrari or lamborghini, or any other car brand with some decency thought this car was cool, they would be making cars that are like this.

  • Comment removed

  • its kinda funny, looking at this now from the future, hes completely right!

  • @RedlineGTSR try completely wrong, I have yet to see 1 mother fucker who wants one of these

  • Does anybody know the music at 3:45??

  • whats wrong with a opel calibra i love it :P

  • now it will never be forgotten

  • hah, in the top gear comparison, the 190, m3, and the sierra cosworth, james said martin brundel said the 190 was the best handling sport saloon car, and richard and jeremy said he didnt. they called martin and he said he didnt ever say that. richard just said the opposite. i wish i could go to europe and tell them

  • @topgearfan1997 i'd preffer the bmw m3

  • @topgearfan1997 This is Top Gear, they always contradict themselves. And you call yourself a fan.

  • @topgearfan1997 it was about chassiss, james said these are brundle's words, jeremy and richard antagonized and so did brundle on the phone. they know rundle also antagonized it, please don't come to europe, stay stupid in your country.

  • @kajetanadamsamuel it was a set up cs martin did say that and i don't blame him

  • @topgearfan1997 James May claimed " martin brundle said it had THE BEST "

Richard says, its one of the best, but not the best alone?

  • @pingpongyul

good catch, but why am i getting so much hate for just a comment

  • @topgearfan1997 hey bro im just commenting, trying to figure it out myself. No hate at all ;)

  • @pingpongyul

thanks alot, but go ahead and look at all of the other comments that have been replied to me.....trolls

  • plus he's wrong at 4.20, the merc was released generaly before the m3 the m3 was considered a catch up when released by some press, taking nothing away from the mighty m3 of course ..........

  • 2.9 vr6 forever, endless torque and seemingless endless revs, with only a cone filter fitted it howls like a demon !!

  • Proud owner of a 190E Cosworth and i love it.

  • Hammond says that Martin Brundle praised this chassis, but didn't James May claim the same in another episode (where they tested 3 used German cars) and was shot down by Clarkson and Brundle himself (over the phone)?

  • I didn't know the Mercedes 190E Cosworth came in automatic. I was one in a dealership once then saw the automatic shifter and thought 'nah, it's just a rebadge. Now I'm not so sure.

  • Did you know that cosworth was two friends! mr costco & mr woolworth.

  • i freaking love that mercedes.......i want one!

  • the 190 e cosworth is a ridiculous amazing car, it will knock you off your feet

  • i'm fucking tired thumbs up already!

  • @Anydinosaur i like them both! proud 190 & gti owner.

  • well my girlfriend is mexican and we werent to impresed. but you have to remember unlike the most of the world we have a sense of humor. Our food is shit and so were british leland but theres a reason why you fucking euros always give us nill points at eurovision and i dont need to say what it is do i now.

  • cars i think will be future classics - new mk2 focus rs, honda s2000, the modern volkswagon beetle, the new ferrari 458...

  • lmao touche lolz see thats comedy! :D Monty python is Comedy and hilarious one too :) but what u guys said over these people is the equivalent of getting a caricature of a Jew from Nazi Germany and making fun based on what you see and thats NOT comedy. telling a people that they have bad teeth is not the same as telling a nation one has never been to that you are better than them. thats just facist and all of u know it :P

  • cars imitate national traits.. British cars are nothing but bad smelling, crooked grilled, pompous , over-estimated,dainty, over priced machines that will probably wear a monocle, have delusions of grandeur, and think its the standard never realizing how much of a dandy it looks. almost as bad as British food but atleast u can stomach blood pudding and fish N chips...imagine one day waking up and knowing you're British? that be great because then i can make racist assessments over others! :D

  • @YOYOBadmojoJOJO i guess thats why american cars tend to be overweight, dull and tacky

  • @YOYOBadmojoJOJO relax. they make fun of everyone. i'm american, they always make fun of americans, but i'm not whining and complaining and overreacting to everything. learn to laugh and stop taking things so seriously please.

  • @MrBroth13 especially, entertainment..

  • viva the mastretta and fuckyou top gear

  • what about a w124 400E. rare yet give a bite.

  • I want...both.

  • thumbs up if you own a corrado how about

  • @Mk3DubVR

I hate the Corrado. It looks just like any VW. It actually is just another VW. Expensive in insurance, horrible looking, it´s just awful. And, sorry mate, i am from germany :-)

  • @MarcSchrewe im sorry dude but you must not have any taste in cars ha ha. im not in love with the rado stock but slammed with wide wheels is where its at.

  • @MarcSchrewe =o dont germans make cars,and opels?

  • @MarcSchrewe A lot of it is different then any other VW starting with the engine. Its two door, it has unique sporty curves, electronically controlled spoiler, unusual VW rear and front. It actually doesnt look close to a jetta or a golf. Its designed by karmann. Not to mention the interior with the recaro leather is really nice and doest look like the ones in other vws. Its definitely a head turner so i will disagree with you. Fun little sports car. In the proper condition that is.

  • 727 727 views:D

  • The scenes from 3:20 to 3:30 are chilling! You can't help thinking: "What if......?

  • I like that so many Top Gear episodes with VW's include Depeche Mode music. I am sure the producer and I would get along well... my fave cars and fave band!

  • 6.7 seconds quick compared to what? a train?

  • @killdac are stupid or what.....that car is more the 15 years old.....shitty american cars during that time couldnt do that, some of them cant do that now, i mean in that class of course

  • @ruskiroma 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 6.2 seconds to 60

  • @killdac thats younger, also if I am not mistaken that is a bigger engine, at least 3.7 also the quality of that car is not that great

  • @ruskiroma your right lol im just being an a hole its actully a 3.8L supercharged but its not really compareable to these cars it was way kind of over priced at 32,000 for a sporty family car thats a lot when you look at it closely

  • @killdac yeah i would actually buy that vw if i had the money, the merc maybe,

  • @killdac

but its GERMAN. period. that marks end of conversation.

  • @killdac to 90% all cars sold within past 100 years

  • thats insane
