The Flyin' Illini remain UI basketball gods. They charged into the Final Four 20 years ago, only to lose to a Michigan team they had beaten twice, 96-84 and 89-73. Neither won the Big Ten championship that year.
I wanted Michigan to win, however the truth is the put back Higgins put on was a complete fluke bounce off the rim for the Wolverines to win. I would love to see the 89 Illinois team play the 2005 edition.
