@smp156 As UMakeTheConnection points out, being vegan lowers our risk of contracting these diseases significantly. It doesn't bring the risk to zero, unfortunately. Other people's unethical choices don't only impact themselves and the animals, but us vegans as well.
Even if being vegan didn't bring down one's risk, it would still be the selfless, right thing to do, as it involves not supporting the system that is causing the problem. If everyone went vegan, this problem would go away.

@UMakeTheConnection I've seen two of those docs, and not the other two (which I will check out sometime). Earthlings was actually the documentary that got me to go vegan. I'd been vegetarian (lacto-ovo) for almost 9 years before that. After watching this, I knew I could never support animal exploitation in any form ever again. It's a great eye-opener, I definitely recommend it to people as well.
