What for? The animal wasn't harmed in anyway. I just find it interesting that PETA is up in arms about this, but they would rather kill unwanted pets by the thousands than putting more effort in placing them in good homes, as I wrote about in my column.
Actually, Timeobserver, Great ape "actors" are torn away from their mothers as infants, repeatedly beaten during training, and discarded when they become too strong to be managed. There is no excuse for that kind of abuse, especially considering the alternatives to using live animals, such as the animatronics they employ with their popular duck commercials, animation, and CGI.
It's probably cheaper to have the actual orangutan then a puppet one, if it's to do the same movements. Anyway, I don't see a problem using the orangutan. Hey, if he was abused, then I'm the first to help him. But if he isn't abused, and it doesn't look like he is, I see no harm.
to train that orangutang to be put in that commercial and other tv airings like it they generally are beaten and hurt to be shown "who's boss". around the age of 8 they are considered too powerful to listen to a trainer so they're dumped at hideous roadside zoos or warehoused in horrible conditions.
that orangutang you see there is just a baby. i'm all up for entertainment but i mean if they computerized the duck, they could have computerized the orangutang.
i hope all that watch this know that the orangutangs on these comercials and others are usuaally beaten to train them and by the time they are 8 they are dumped at roadside zoos and kept in horrible conditions and denied their basic needs.

Please urge Aflac to stop airing this commercial immediately and enact a policy to ban the use of great apes in any future advertising campaign

Yes, I know about the abuse to some of these animals, but not all of them are. There is no evidence that this animal was abused.

Yes, but is there any proof that he wasn't? according to a PETA Survey I read, 89 Percent are.
goose1977 3 years ago
PETA has some credibility issues. The thing is,they have no proof that the orangutan in this commercial was ever abused. They just implied it.

right, but if they animated the duck, they could've animated the orangutan. just saying.
