I'm a security officer in Seattle area. I got called in to work emergency coverage at a port site that my company has, because of this. I lost time that I could have used to get things done like errands and house work. I had to cancel a date with my girlfriend. I want to see change happen also, but I'm not going to annoy people who have nothing to do with the change I want to see. Where's the point in that?
Your numbers are too weak, you guys need more promoting of 3rd party information & recognition to people you know. Everyone of you know 10 people & they know 10 people, get the information to them & & get them involved. There shouldn't be a few hundred or a few thousand, there should be hundreds of thousands of pissed off proud Americans. Get the facts to your local vets, business owners, the elderly who will be losing even more in yrs to come, law enforcement (their humans too) GET TO WORK!
I like how at part 3:47 you see the flash bang granade go off and all the protesters run away. But the new camera man is just standing there like "yeah i heard it and saw it so what" and he just keeps filming.
I have dropped by the protests whenever I was in town visiting form college, and have marched with OS a few times. I am still not sure if I agree with the move to shit down the ports, as I am still trying to educate myself on the ramifications of doing so. However, people need to realize that this is not a fuck the police movement. People like the guy at 1:23 who stand there flipping off the police only antagonizes them, and undermines the movement. This movement is not about hating the police.
I'm proud of you guys, a part of me would really love to join the movement. It's good to see that people are taking the steps needed to really grab attention by disrupting traffic and business, that's definitely a must, otherwise it's just a bunch of people bitching in an open field not affecting anything.
@sprdvx The anarchists didn't ruin anything. They and the revolutionaries are the only ones who struggled and fought. The liberals would stand on the sidewalks and avoid confrontation with the police. The anarchists and the revolutionary marxists were the reason those gates were shutdown! You pro-capitalist liberals are the reason we are in this mess with your kumbaiyah Obama/Clinton/LBJ sentiment. You ride our coat-tails and claim credit for the blood sweat and tears that we put in.
These jackasses do not represent 99% of anything. The people who lose the most are the real 53% and the police who have to deal with these jackasses every day. We are very tired of them and the whole world is indeed watching. SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!
@romeotangohotel You dont think we are having a impact, check out the amendment introduced by Sanders.. Its called the occupied amendment.. Its to repeal citizens united.. look how many cities have declaired thier support for OWS.. You should expect us
@romeotangohotel I'll believe a word you say when a capitalist liberal does something to benefit the 99%. Until that day happens, keep blowing hot air. The only people in the red-zone were revolutionaries. The only people that stayed in the streets and risked arrest were revolutionaries. The rest of you stayed on the sidewalk, ate, and got comfortable. I know, because I was there and I watched from the street.
@zapatista512 I guess you would know, because I wasn't there, someone has to go to work and pay for everything. Revolutionaries? Really? That's treason, punishable by death! You remember who's streets these are, our streets, the 53% of the people that actually pay taxes. If you are against my Country you are an enemy, remember, the whole world is watching! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU! THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING! SHAME ON YOU
Cowards hiding their faces. If their cause was just, if their hearts had courage instead of cowardice they wouldn't need to. They wouldn't want to. The mic check thing is so comical. Everytime I see it I split my sides laughing. Great idea folks piss of the longshoremen.
Some will be inconvenienced, this is true. Making needed changes requires some sacrifice. If the current trend continues without interruption, those people that are inconvenienced today will be hurt far worse in the future, when worker's rights have completely disappeared.
Our economy is linear (unsustainable) it will fail, it is just a matter of when. The only thing static is change. Nature is cyclical (sustainable) and nothing linear succeeds.
TheStoryOfStuff(dot)Org, the story of stuff, of citizens vs fec, of broke, hell watch them all!
What mindless pieces of shit. They are impacting the lives of normal working people they supposedly represent! Its a thing that I don't have to go through that barricade--I'm not sure how I would react. I commend the law enforcement for remaining calm and not fueling the fire.
@danwes10 We say the same about sleepy mindless folks like yourself who have no idea how fast they are losing their bill of rights and how the system is crumbling around them. You likely think that voting will fix everything, that we are free to influence our "democratic" system. Wake Up! Isreal has more vote than all of us!
@AnOminousWarming Listen, I'm as skeptical of our government as the next guy, but please tell me how you are helping the "99%" by closing down a port and preventing folks from getting to their jobs??? Your'e not, what if those are people living pay check to pay check? Or do you begrudge anyone with a job. I doubt voting will fix much, because they are slaves to the dollar, both sides. We will eventually go the way of Greece, especially if you buffoons get your way.
@danwes10 it's to show solidarity with the longshoremen (who actually shut down the ports by themselves by not showing up to work back in september) and protest their working conditions, as well as to target bailout receiver and govt. corruptor goldman-sachs that owns EGT and their union-busting efforts.
@goemon9378 And what brand computer did you type that message on and OS is it running? You don't think occupying the ports won't cost the nation even more money? I just have to question the logic of Occupy Seattle at times. These "corporations" are deeply embedded. And since they are, corporations, you will feel the pinch before they will.
@Caprican28 lol, occupy isn't against capitalism, it's against crony capitalism (the vast majority anyway).
"You don't think occupying the ports won't cost the nation even more money?" -> by "the nation" you mean the corporate big wigs and politicians boo hoo.
you need to stop being so materialistic, slavish and scared this system of crony capitalism isn't working for the planet or its people.
@Caprican28 "And since they are, corporations, you will feel the pinch before they will." -> kind of like when taxpayers had to feel the massive pinch of the bailout after the banks totally screwed up the banking and mortgage system. gee thanks, bend over more. this government isn't meant to rob the people to favor the banks the govt is in bed with, the govt. supposed to serve the people.
When will you protesters learn that you are only hurting your OWN cities? The owners of those large corps only see you when they turn on the tvs, if then. They don't live where you do, they don't take those roads or attend SCCC. You're only costing your own cities money and resources. You guys have got to get a better plan than this, you're only amplifying the conditions left as a result of the bad economy even more. Don't think for a minute your jobs won't be replaced and/or moved over seas.
@goemon9378 Have you been reading the statistics posted online? According to Seattlepi thanks the the Occupy protesters, the cost was $529,000 to the city of Seattle. That was just November 10.
@Caprican28 and how much did banks and corporations cost the taxpayers? i don't see you getting upset about $1.3 trillion+. if you think people shouldn't protest because of cost of OT policemen then better not protest anything anymore and get effed in the rear by the corporations.
