This a pretty good example of why remastering is a bad idea. What was wrong with the original? Nothing because we all like it when we first heard it. So why is this one better? It's not. All that was done was that compression was applied to this version, making everything much louder than the original. Problem is the natural dynamics of the original recording, with all its subtle nuances, are lost. I've never liked any of the Rush re-issues for that reason.

@bearmare dude your wrong and kind of right remastering does have SOME problems but some very very good things like its a lot more clearer than the original song so he may have increased the volume but also cleared the bass, piano, etc..

The only way one can truly clean or clear-up a recording is to, either, rerecord that portion; or, apply additional layers in the mix to a particular instrument. As an example, check the original and remaster versions of The Portrait by Kansas. In the original each instrument is noticed and has its space in the mix. Remastered, it's a loud jumbled, crowded mess. Rush remasters are no different, unfortunately.

@onemarilynfan I totally agree no one has ever been able to do what RUSH does onstage with just three members. All those other trios generally have additional band mates on tour. I will have to say that Triumph was also very good live but they're sound is more stripped down. I've seen RUSH a shit load of times and you would think there were at least 5 guys on stage.
