It's best to kill the spaceship then play the bonus round as the astronaut...easier play control. Only kill the spaceship after you get the golden warpship piece.
Did you know about the special passwords? Use all D, G, H, K, L, M, N, P, Q's as the password. In the Q password, you'll have 999999 money, but if you kill an enemy or take a crystal in the bonus round, you'll have 0 dollars and it goes from there.
actually, as long as you have the boosters it is rather easy getting all 10 gems. I always do that from planet 2 and after because its much more fun than being just the jetman ;]
