@MissNatalieKhan Thrilla in Manila was the end of Ali's 70s peak. That was Ali's last fight in which he seemed "Ali". He had already beaten every fighter there was to beat before Manila. Manila was more accurately the one that helped him be great but the Rumble is what defined him. Thats why everyone around Ali felt he should have retired right after Manila, he had nothing left to prove.
Ali was and still not only the greatest but the smartest boxer ever lived on this planet!!! As a bonus He had a fantastic speed, amazing foot work, and finally but not last a very good chin!!!
@MissNatalieKhan By the time The Thrilla In Manilla happened Ali already had wins over 6 (?) hall of fame boxers. Thats way more then any other HW boxer
@GanGsTerR4Live HAHA Tyson never beat anyone good. Tyson had POTENTIAL to be one of the all time greats but he was so mentally weak and ruied his career so bad that he isnt even in the top 10. Whats Tysons best career win? An old ass Holmes? Tyson is unproven and canot be even in the discussion when it comes to all time greats
@ben1ben2ben1 career, Tyson became well known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style as well as his controversial behavior both inside and outside the ring. Tyson is considered to have been one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time.[3] He is ranked No. 16 on The Ring's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time btw in you Face fagget!!
@GanGsTerR4Live # 16 greatest PUNCHERS (KO power) not BOXERS. Tyson had power and potential but he wasted his career by beating cans. He was too mentally weak. Ali would have fucked with his head. ESPN ranked him 50th of all time, RING FUCKING MAGAZINE ranked him 14th HEAVEY WEIGHT ever. TYson NEVER proved he could beat a top fighter
@GanGsTerR4Live HAHAHAHA no Ali would embarrass Tyson. Who the fuck has tyson ever beaten (that was in there prime) that makes you think he could beat the GREATEST HW of all time? Tyson made a career out of beating bums and washed up fighter and loosing to any good fighter. Ali has beaten some of the all time greats. Plus Ali would completely fuck with the mentally weak Tysons head. Forman, Frazer and Liston would beat Tyson too just like every good fighter Tyson fought. Fuck your stupid
@ben1ben2ben1 ali and foreman and frazer is shit honestly even am better than joey frazier mike tyson would destroy them all you stupid am a boxing expert nigga so shut you mouth and suck my dick cause tyson always will be the best boxer in history !!!!!!!
@GanGsTerR4Live LOL ok i get it your just messing around. At first i thought you were serious but you outed yourself with this post haha. Your a funny guy
@GanGsTerR4Live Not only a prime Muhammad Ali would demolish Mike Tyson with a knockout in probably round 6, but also a prime Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, George Foreman and Joe Frazier. Tyson did not do well against opponent who did not fear them. Ali was one of those people. He would make Tyson lose his cool. Foreman was a lot stronger than Tyson, Ernie Shavers hit a lot harder.
@michaelyouth bullshit even ali said himself that mike tyson would win if ali was in his prime and mike tyson is stronger than all of the guys you mentioned and he's stronger than geroge forshit and 100 times better than rocky marciano .. anyway the point is mike was the best
@GanGsTerR4Live Ali said that once. When he had Parkinson in the Arsenio Hall show. He was being humble.Tyson knew this and said, in that same show, that Ali was the greatest. George Foreman, Sonny Liston and Ernie Shavers hit a lot harder than Mike Tyson. Ali took out Joe Frazier, George Foreman,Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton and other great heavyweights of his time. Tyson, when he got competition, serious competition, lost from the best HW of his time. There is no comparison with Ali
funny how time and old age can cool the heat between rivals. Throughout the 70s Ali basically shitted on GF whenever his name was brought up(even in the year or so after they fought). But in recent times he respects GF whenever he can and calls their fight his greatest win.
@MajestyQuickness no ali always respected him he cud have tooken a huge shot a huge shot on foreman but didnt thats gotta say he didnt hate him or dislike him ali respects gf
Ali is the greatest partly because of George Foreman. If Ali had not beaten Foreman in the rumble Ali may not have been viewed as great as he is viewed today...its just my opinion though...what do you guys think???
@vladiator100 i agree imho ali is the only boxer ever who couldve done that to george that night. george is my favourite boxer he was (and probably still is) an absolute monster of a man but for me ali is the greatest because he had everything
@vladiator100 You are right in way but remember what he did to Sonny Liston and a lot of other big heavyweights before his lay off. Again, the speed, foot work and charisma. Beating Big George Foreman was a big achievement as well, no doubt.
@vladiator100 Agreed. George Foreman in that era was a force to be reckon with, It was suicide getting in the ring with him. And whats crazy is Frazier beat Ali, And than was demolished by Foreman, And Ali went on to beat both of them, And Frazier and Foreman both had crazy hooks that would drop any heavyweight in the last 10 years
@vladiator100 In order to be the greatest you need to beat the best there is. Imagine an Ali who never fought Frazier, Foreman, or Liston, would he still be known as the greatest? Think about it. You can't say the Klitschkos are some of the greatest boxers ever because there hasn't been any big mega fights with other great heavyweights, except for the wladimir vs david haye fight, which really wasn't that great. It was just another Friday night boxing fight.
I think you're right. Ever since I was a kid I remember hearing about Ali and the rope a dope. It's like how they say it takes a lifetime to build a reputation and only an instant to destroy it. That fight seemed like that moment. Had he lost, he likely would've been remembered as just another great fighter. But by winning he cemented himself as the greatest in an era full of greats and the way he capped if off was just one of a kind. Hollywood couldn't right a better script.
@vladiator100 i disagree sonny liston, floyd patterson, cleveland williams, ken nortan and JOE frazier at there peaks in my eyes already made him a great which other heavy weight champion has beaten 4 hall of famers who were on there game beating 5 is however just makes it look even better
@aaarrr1 Yeah but remember everyone thought Ali could never in a million years beat Foreman. They believed his legend was not cemented YET, by loosing to Foreman they thought Ali would not be considered the greatest because Foreman was there. If Ali lost as they predicted what would they think of Ali? Perhaps just another great fighter but not the greatest. Yes he had already defeated most other fighters in the 60s and 70s but Foreman was his last great test, THE test and he prevailed.
@bumbasi89 giant as in the docu When we were Kings.... dont take it too literally; I didn't use the word Giant as in Gulliver's Travels, but more to indicate his stature in boxing. I watched the Frazier Ali fights and I would be really surprised if there is going to be something similar in boxing soon. As in jaw-on-the-floor surprised... I don't see that happening. Frazier carried a lot of mental pain though, because of what Ali said about him and how Ali disrespected him.
@vladiator100 Certainly the fight with Foreman helped make Ali a legend but before that before he was stripped of his title he used to predict the round he'd stop his opponent and then do it. He'd say 6 rounds or sooner then make it happen. You could see it coming if he said the fight will be over in 7 in the 6th rnd he would bust the other guy up open up and beat them to where they would barely hanging on and in the 7th it was target practice and either he'd end it or the ref had to.
@vladiator100 If Ali lost to George he was already a legend he lost 3 of his best years and before he was banned was telling opponents you won't get past the 8th round or 5th or what ever and did it. What fighter at any level did that? Ali was the perfect storm. Size, speed , Power , and the over whelming will to win. He could throw like a fast middle weight at 6'3" 200 lbs.I'm 56 I loved his style and my dad didn't like him " Mouth from the South" after he beat Ernie Terrel he said best ever.
@tellthetruthg No question Ali was already a legend. But if he lost to Foreman he wouldn't be considered the greatest whereas when he beat Foreman he is now considered THE greatest. He beat everybody at that time, the only one left was of course Foreman. If he lost his legacy would not have been cemented.
@maffia440 I agree with that BUT the fight that cemented Ali as the greatest was the Foreman fight. People didn't consider Ali as the greatest until he beat Foreman. Even after he beat Frazier in the rematch everybody thought of Ali as a great fighter but not THE greatest as he is known as today. While the Ali-Frazier rivalry is probably the greatest in boxing history, Ali does not need Frazier as much as he needs Foreman. He does however need Liston too.
@vladiator100 The Foreman fight cemented his greatness, but Ali solidified his "greatness" long before Foreman as Cassias Clay back in the 60s. The Cleveland Williams fight shows abilities that'll never be duplicated.
@vladiator100 If you remember, Ali lost to Frazier in 71 and was taken apart by Norton in 73. A lot of people felt his career was over and his shot at the title was past.Howard Cosell said after the Norton fight:"Ali is a broken man and a broken fighter. What was once a very good fighter becomes now part of fisticuffs history".Ali got one more chance in 74 against Foreman. That fight was everything for Ali.Lose that fight and Ali would only be another colorful story in boxing history.
