289 and 302 are the same blocks and yes the 289 is shorter strokes and are hard to beat I have a 64.5 stang that I love but this one is awesome!!! Great car man

a 289 engine while on mustang .. especialy if its the original engine(numbers match up) then the car is worth more.!!!! WHY A 302... only if you end up blowing up or cracking you 289...

289 sounds better and is more capable of higher HP because it has a shorter stroke as well as more rpm.

Ford only made the 302 to match chevy's 302 and its just a stoked out 289

Besides putting miles on a orginal motor doesn't mean shit if they are on the car. My 289 has been rebuilt it sure the hell doesn't hurt the vaule of it. I'd even put heads on it and a cam if I wasn't fixxin to sell it to buy a house moron.

it runs the same...!!!! its just how the engine puts out a 289 and a 302 are almost the same. u rebuilt the 289 and your all good.. and if it doesnt' run good then slap your self for either not installing it right in your car or who ever rebuilt the 289.
