But todays rock music isn't in much of an era at all so everything can work. Noel's free to do anything he wants with his music. I can't wait for him to put out an album.

I always love hearing Noel sing the songs that he wrote. However, there is no replacement for Liam's shredded, soulful vocals on the songs he sings lead.

This is a great tune. This whole album was a quite a bit different than anything they've done before. They LYRICS on this album are tops. Best lyrical content of any Oasis album by a mile.

By "experimental" i meant for NG. Not for the musical universe as a whole m8... lololol. There is a definite change to the sound of that album, its bigger, more full on the production side and on a personal note, i queued up outside HMV on Glasgow's Argyle St at midnight aged 16 to pick up the fucker. I agree the B-sides are no where near as good as the previous 2 albums though. Fade in/out, D'you know what i mean and It's getting better man are class.

i honestly think that to be truly unique with regards to writing music nowadays is probably like trying to find a new colour. I tend to look at NG songwriting as a bit more than "copying" m8 although i admit, some of the later stuff can be a bit flat and forced. Incidentally i believe that Noels slating of BHN had more to do with being considered a god like hero and then being ganged up on by the same musical critics who gave it 5 stars.

Every single critical review I have ever read, and NG himself, slate this album for the reason that it was hugely derivative, even by Oasis's standards, and even of their own songs; it was the same old formula, which by the third album (and a lot of good B sides) was boring, and it was made on Charlie, hence the overblown sounds. Mate, if NG says these things, and he wrote it, they hold some water! Copying the Roses and the beatles (with orchestra) is not innovation, just more, er, copying!

It was the same old stuff again, only this time more overblown and Coke-fuelled than before. Could disagree more mate. I think that DM was an awesome album with songs that meant something becuase Noel was writing about real things that meant something to him. It's a classic. SOSOG can never come close, and indeed doesn't, even with a couple of B-Sides. I disagree that Oasis are creative - they're not. They do the same oldstuff again and again, ripping off their own and others songs - they do this well and I don't think they're bad at all. But mate, Oasis are retrogressive, not creative.

It can be done though, you don't have to re-invent the wheel. The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Blur etc. all showed the ability to progress musically, exploring new areas and sounds. That's what really great artists do - they always want to push themselves and cover new groud and challenge their listeners/readers. My criticism of Oasis is that they effectively release the same songs each album. They're not a bad band - I like them a lot - but they'll always be limited by their lack of adventure.
