This makes me question why Liam was in the group at all. Noel is a great front man. Oasis still couldn't been great without Liam. I still love Liam but he wasn't really needed.
@gotf he really WAS needed early on though... he just had the voice and the look. Noel had the songs... that was the deal. Not so anymore. Now it's just Noel and his songs, and he has the stronger voice than Liam now.
@Vincecouk Yeah you're definitely right about the times. Liam's voice and stuff was perfect for the 90s with the whole alternative rock and Brit indie thing. But todays rock music isn't in much of an era at all so everything can work. Noel's free to do anything he wants with his music. I can't wait for him to put out an album.
how this band has 101 b-sdies that most people never hear, that are far better than ANYTHING else the past 10 years is beyond me. what quality output by my fav band ever
do you have a link for me to download this?? this song with noel in the vocals is amazing! even more than with liam haha! i want all songs with noel on vocals! he puts another sound to them
I always love hearing Noel sing the songs that he wrote. However, there is no replacement for Liam's shredded, soulful vocals on the songs he sings lead.
This is a great tune. This whole album was a quite a bit different than anything they've done before. They LYRICS on this album are tops. Best lyrical content of any Oasis album by a mile.
singing is playing an instrument wanka..and easily the hardest instrument..anyone can pick up a guitar and strum a few chords but not everyone can sing well and distinctivly..although noel is fantastic at it all.
surely though you are either born with a good voice or not (although I do appreciate ones voice can be improved if ones practices), whereas with an instrument you need to take days, months and ultimately years to learn to play it and perfect (if perfection is possible).
Just wanna say Oasis are not Radiohead and never will be thank god. I lost interest in Thom Yorke and co after Ok Computer. Music should be upligting and touch you not make you wanna slit your wrists....check out I Wanna Live In Dream (In My Record Machine) of the new album, qualitay!!!!!! Keep the faith!
By "experimental" i meant for NG. Not for the musical universe as a whole m8... lololol. There is a definite change to the sound of that album, its bigger, more full on the production side and on a personal note, i queued up outside HMV on Glasgow's Argyle St at midnight aged 16 to pick up the fucker. I agree the B-sides are no where near as good as the previous 2 albums though. Fade in/out, D'you know what i mean and It's getting better man are class.
i honestly think that to be truly unique with regards to writing music nowadays is probably like trying to find a new colour. I tend to look at NG songwriting as a bit more than "copying" m8 although i admit, some of the later stuff can be a bit flat and forced. Incidentally i believe that Noels slating of BHN had more to do with being considered a god like hero and then being ganged up on by the same musical critics who gave it 5 stars.
D'you know what i mean - takes from the same psychedelic and "Experimental" jungle as the Roses "Breaking into heaven". and what about the Orchestras??? M8 this album was full of new sounds for Oasis, and shows clearly that they were heading into a totally different direction than the laid bare, raw sound of DM and the sound that they have now.
Every single critical review I have ever read, and NG himself, slate this album for the reason that it was hugely derivative, even by Oasis's standards, and even of their own songs; it was the same old formula, which by the third album (and a lot of good B sides) was boring, and it was made on Charlie, hence the overblown sounds. Mate, if NG says these things, and he wrote it, they hold some water! Copying the Roses and the beatles (with orchestra) is not innovation, just more, er, copying!
And regards to N.G not actually writing about anything with BHN - Be Here Now is a cocaine album m8 and its fucking packed with feelings of Confidence, self importance and ego, it says a shitload about where this band were in 1997. It says a lot about the UK in 1997.
I actually think its got better with age personally m8.
How you doing M8, anyone that picks up a guitar and uses chords (they dont actually belong to anybody) Paul McCartney doesn't own G etc... lololol and puts together a song, IS CREATIVE. They have created. So i disagree with your earlier point.
I keep finding songs here that were demos and were better than the album cut,... its obvious that noels confidence was severly dented following the critical hammering of Experimental Be Here Now (unjustly IMO),... Noel is a fucking mega music maker and Be here Now for me is the way British Music SHOULD have went,... imo.
Be Here Now experiemental? Are you joking mate? It was nothing of the sort - in fact, that was why it got panned. It was the same old stuff again, only this time more overblown and Coke-fuelled than before. People got bored of the same old songs, same old beats, same old chords and samey guitar-riffs/melodies.....name me one song that was innovative on BHN, rather than a rip-off of someone else or themselves....it's not an experimental album mate! Oasis don't do innovation - that's their point!
It is frustrating as "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" should have stood above both "Definitely Maybe" & "(What's the Story) Morning Glory if they had put Let's All Make Believe, Carry Us All & One Way Road on instead of PYMWYMI, ICSAL and LJ.
yeah that would have been a masterpiece album. One Way Road...a b-side!?! I've never understood that. Well, then again Noel doesn't have the same perspective on his own music as we fans do.
Could disagree more mate. I think that DM was an awesome album with songs that meant something becuase Noel was writing about real things that meant something to him. It's a classic. SOSOG can never come close, and indeed doesn't, even with a couple of B-Sides. I disagree that Oasis are creative - they're not. They do the same oldstuff again and again, ripping off their own and others songs - they do this well and I don't think they're bad at all. But mate, Oasis are retrogressive, not creative.
I disagree but I would say it is a half decent album and better song selection could've made it so much better. I'm surprised Noel let LJ even near inclusion. Liam must've had right old tantrum!! LAMB & CUA are class and should've been on there but I'd have had Full On ahead of OWR.
SOTSOG is hardly insanely creative but it definitely was Oasis at their most creative until DOYS. There are some real gems on there if you ignore the likes of LJ, PYMWYMI & ICSAL.
the lyrics say everything and nothing at the same time, like a lot of bands who really don't have anything to say but feel they need to say something profound......
this is so plodding and laboured! Give me something different, please! They're still making this kind of song now. Please do something a bit innovative, Noel, I'd like to see it, if you could be that brave to chart new waters at some point!
all original songs, they sound a bit beatly but this is the 90s, almost every thing has been done. i mean i kon that oasis did ripp off alot of chordes and riffs. but they did it well and turned them into better songs! oasis arn't original but there fookin great!
It can be done though, you don't have to re-invent the wheel. The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Blur etc. all showed the ability to progress musically, exploring new areas and sounds. That's what really great artists do - they always want to push themselves and cover new groud and challenge their listeners/readers. My criticism of Oasis is that they effectively release the same songs each album. They're not a bad band - I like them a lot - but they'll always be limited by their lack of adventure.
unfuckingbelieveble!!!!!! noel is.....no words can describe, he's just the best!!! SOTSOG, be here now, and heathen chem. were insanely underated albums, in my opinion they were when oasis was at thier prime!!!!!! ahh who am i kidding, they are still in thier prime!!!!!!
