I just read the latest news on this from the AF, the contract biding for a rebuild to carry this weapon wont even close till Dec 31st 2009, then would take 11 months. So we are looking at close to a year an a half.

We already have a bomb called a daisy cutter that is dropped from military transport planes. This is basically the same bomb except it will have a hardened casing and a rocket to propel it into the earth to depths of 200 or so feet. We need to develop one of these type bombs due to the fact that every country is hiding crap underground now. Better us to have them instead of the other guys.

Yeah I have seen the MOAB up close and personal so to speak but it lacks the penetrating power of the MOP. The only problem I see is how to deliver the damned thing. If you owned the skies thats one thing but with the Iranian air force you couldn't use the hercules to deliver it safety. I would think they are retro- fitting a B1 so it fits in the bomb bay.

MOAB is smaller. And the "AB" in MOAB stands for Air Burst, these MOP bombs are designed to penetrate the ground and explode after a delay, like the WW2 Tallboy and Grandslam bombs
