"delspd", I'm not entirely sure of that myself. Maybe when these cartoons were being created back in the day, Superman was not being thought of as someone who could actually fly. Of course, this is just my opinion. Hey!! Can someone else help me explain this as well because I might be wrong here? Seriously.

Okay found it on Wikipedia. Fleischer cartoons made Superman leap from building to building in the earlier episodes but they made him able to fly later on because leaping looked very silly !!

I dunno why people are giving you thumbs down for saying this. It's true. When Superman was created, he couldn't fly...he actually 'leaped tall buildings'. Then, it was the original Fleischer cartoons that first gave him the ability to fly and it obviously stuck. Superman grew and grew in strength and powers as the years went by adding heat vision, freeze breath, etc.

The "look up in the sky its a bird its a plane" line wasn't referring to his flight. It merely referred to him soaring in the air, because he could practically leap over half a city.

Max Fleischer specifically requested they allow Superman to fly, because it was easier and cheaper to animate than the constant jumping.

I think this is the only version of this song, with a disco beat (it did come out in '79). There was an extended "disco" remix on the remastered "Low Budget" album, but I think that this is th original version.
