The octopus copies it. I don't know if it really thinks about 'copying', I think its more similar to when a human feels their hair stand up on the back of their neck .. only the octopus has colors instead of hairs, and they 'stand up' in the form of whatever they see around them.

Yeah if you didnt know every single design like cars planes and boats, anything you can think of relys on the ideas of animals, jet engines come from squids and octopus which can jet propel themselfs along, streamline comes from fish which have perfectly streamlined bodys, everything is like this.
