I cant take such a beautiful piece seriously with those dumb new adds by the video screen, you know the one with the old dude with the retarded ass mustache! Youtube what have you done! It was tolerable but now its just... Nooooo haha.
ergh...an ugly interpretation of a wonderful piece...many others are far better. This one...lags on too much. I mean, in the most passionate part, it's just slow.
well then here my new comment, because I think there have been a coupe misunderstandings,
I love this song and I'm also learning it, with fast and annoying I actually meant to learn it, didn't mean the sound. Liebestraum is one of my favorite pianosongs
So yes I'm listening to the same recording and no I'm not clueless
Are you aware that, for instance, Liszt told his students to improvise short preludes to pieces like this one? Even by the 1880s the tradition that Liszt knew and lived in was disappearing. We'll never get it back- & no one will ever appreciate how free it was - but it implied a degree of artistry and integrity, things which there is very little of these days. But to disparage added notes in Liszt?? ...they either justify themselves or they don't.
nowadays everyone crucifies a person who doesn't play this beautiful piece to their 'standard'.improvisation is one of the magic of music.there is no right or wrong, as long it sounds beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful!! This and the Sauer recording makes one only imagine Liszt's playing. It is so full, open pianistic singing, there is a rare conviction in the playing that is only enhanced by the occasional missed note -- compared to the heavily edited and 'doctored' modern recordings - no comparison.
I have put on CD: Welte vors roll no. 570 recorded 1924 same piece & pianist & played back on Yamaha grand. Timing 4:36. CD is part of 3 CD set of historic reproducing piano recordings of Liszt's piano works performed by his celebrated Weimar pupils. Enclosed with the book "Rediscovering the Liszt Tradition" by Gerard Carter which is published and sold by Wensleydale Press, 165/137 Victoria Street, Ashfield NSW 2131, Sydney, Australia. Lamond adds a few little gew-gaws of his own (of Liszt's??)
Thank you so much for posting this and the other recordings. How extremely interesting! This is a wonderful recording. So singing, taking the music totally seriously, never sentimental. Musicians of this generation still had authentic belcanto in their blood, and you can really hear it.
Very good!

Beautiful interpretation.
Tremondous control of dynamic inflections in the melody.

it's hard to actually find classical music that's interpreted and played well.
this is a recording that's both interpreted and played really really well^^

One of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. The tempo is a little unusual but Lamond makes it work for him.

it's definitely not easy at all if you try to do it right, but definitely not one of the most difficult pieces there are either.
