  • hay i have a question i have ordered 10 java fern plants not the moss of a aquarium website which will be here in 5 days is it a good plant

  • hey, i know those comments are old, but some people used a rock carpet technique to carpet the ground so its not such a pain to clean and siphon the floor and carpet. Basicly, he takes rocks like lava rock and covers them in java moss, then he uses those lava rocks to cover the floor. Its also good because you can move them around and actually, if you get rocks of different shapes and sizes, you can make hills and small "sanctuaries" for smaller fish

  • Have u had any successfull breading with the neons after adding the java moss? I have a group of neons and just added some java moss, people say it will help in breading.

  • use monofilament fishing line so u can remove it ez. string sucks for this when u have to remove it. just pull with with the fishing line and u dont disturb the rhozoids that just got attached.

  • Can java moss root and grow on driftwood ? Thank you

  • Yes it can. You need to take your wood out of the tank and place the moss where you wish. Tie the moss with Cotton thread and it will attach itself before the thread rots and you will be left with a beautiful moss log.

  • Hey, I hae planted some in the substrate like spread around the foreground, want that nice grass effect. I got my moss on a cocanut cave and have never sweperated it but i thought i would so i did and i will keep an eye open for it to see howmuch it grows.

    Any tips?

  • You need good lighting for plants to grow fast and good looking, however java moss doesnt require all that much, so if you dont have real good lighting It wont be really greenish and lush, but it will still grow

  • I tried planting it in the substrate and it seemed to work out fine. I didn't like cleaning the tank with it though. I would consider doing it in my 55 gallon tank though as it wouldn't take as much work.

  • how long does it take for the moss to take hold?

  • you can cut the strings off the moss after about 2 weeks depending on what you have it on. Wood will take less time than a smooth rock due to the face it has something to grab on to. You can just leave the strings as they will rot fairly quickly and are difficult to get out of the moss once it has grown around it.
