If you add pressure plates on top of fences the items can fall through in to the lava making manually collection of the items unnecessary.

you can use lava to burn the items or u can put 1 dispencer that u have arrows and an object. when u activate a dispenser it chooses a random thing, so if it shoots an arrow it doesnt hit the pressure plate. if it drops item it does.

What about burned out torches. its more random, with dispensers there is a bigger chance for the block til 2 blocks in front of the dispenser

I lot more simpler thing would be to have a clock and then wire it to the torch so if the redstone was powered at the time the torch would be off if not the torch would be on but then again it would only have to possible outcomes not like 6 or whatever...

Please make a tutorial sooner. I bet everyone that see's this gets a million ideas as soon as the video is done, only to find out that they have no way of bringing them to life because they don't know how to make this. It's a huge dissapointment to me, a fellow redstoner, that you would make people wait, just so that you can get a higher like average. Oliver, compact way of clearing items is put the pressure plate on a fence post then the item will fall through.
