David, phenomenal piece that I saw run on PBS. Very well produced, written and informative. And infectious. As the best testimony I have become interested in geocaching and have encouraged many friends. Thanks for the great work!
If you are around the Toronto area I am sorry for destroying the geocache by taking everything from it and taking a piss and shit in it for you to experience..please forgive me
This is the doc that got me onto caching, so thank you! Been at it for 3 years now. I'm a TV producer and I just moved from Canada to the Middle East where some of the most extreme hides ever are. I've developed a new geocaching TV show and we're shooting the pilot episode for satellite TV in a few days. Check out the GC forum's Arabian Peninsula section for more info. One of the caches we're hoping to do if the show gets picked up is GCAA76, but we're shooting the pilot with GC2NYGF.
I've learned over the years (before I started geocaching) that being called a geek really isn't a bad thing. So we like what we like - is it really bad?
I got a gps for Christmas and took my little brother out with me. We found our first geocache today! It's really a lot of fun. My brother was like "wow, this sounds lame", but by the end of the day he was really into it too. We're going again next weekend.
I personally don't think cachers are automatically "geeks". As the filmmaker, I happened to interview people who thought of that subculture they were a part of as geeks. I just documented what they said. I learned that that Geocaching attracts all sorts of people, but the founders of the sport consider themselves geeks. But Geeks have taken over the world (Bill Gates & Steve Jobs, case in point).
geo caching is a thrilling sport me and my dad travel on his harley all over qld to find caches i think its awesome and if u think its for geeks u r wrong it is for any 1 looking for a thrill
This trailer might imply that it's just for geeks but the film in its entiretly also shows why its a great sport. However, some of the players do think of themselves like this, and that's their choice. I just thought it was a funny quote.

"Geo" comes from exploring the earth and hopefully picking up a few pieces of trash along the way.
freewill51 2 years ago
why is it called a geocache
what does it have to do with the earth
TeddyFilmz 2 years ago
it was originally named stash but was renamed after a discussion about people possibly taking the word "stash" the wrong way..
4wildman5 2 years ago
cause you hide it somewhere on the earth
OR
cause you hide it IN the earth
OR
You use a GPS to find it
OR
....?
