I've had to see video's of this man over and over for various jobs, so I'm a little worn out on it. But his points have always been true and still are: the customer is your boss, they pay your salary, and a customer for life is worth too much money overall to alienate them over something trivial. K-Mart, Best Buy, Kodak, and others today have forgotten that, and that is why they are in so much trouble.
had to watch this for a training course for retail wpork to help get a job at first i couldnt take it seriously but sift through all the puns and he has some great points
Bless Mr. Farrell, and ALL of the business owners who share his philosophy... Screw the rest!! I know times are tough, but this is precisely the time when going the extra mile for a customer is most appreciated. Businesses that pinch pennies (or pickles) too hard LOSE in the end. People REMEMBER (fondly) places that care about the shopping/eating experience a customer has in their establishment. Giving people an extra pickle, is the way to encourage loyal, repeat customers.
I just watched the ORIGINAL video in a store training session.
The ORIGINAL version was talking about $0.75 for a side of pickles and in this video clip it says $1.25 for a side of pickles - and you have the audacity to PREACH being "consistent"; How should anyone believe your story if you're not consistent?
As a retired former SUCCESSFUL restaurant owner... I know it's not about your SILLY example of a side of pickles.....it's about the pennies that make dollars ....
i work for jc penneys and we had to watch this video and i will tell you that it really made a difforence, i work in the salon and let me tell you i give pickles when ever i can.... it really makes such a difforence
I am proud to be pickle team leader at my company. We give our pickles away all over the place! Customers keep coming back, they love our pickle! And my employees even have a secret pickle team handshake. ;-p
i work in a compeny that's calld 012 smile and i give my students to watch your approch on custmer srvice and i traind over 2000 pepole with your life approch on life thank you mister farrell.
I work at a company that requires the viewing of this video. My view on this subject is twofold, both views at very opposite ends of the spectrum. One, it is a magnificent approach to customer service, the customer walks away happy and more than likely comes back another day to buy something else. Two, the customer takes advantage of this and starts to over step their bounds and you start to lose profit. To give the pickle or not to give the pickle, that is the question.
@Ketia82 they dont mean give everything, i thought that to, it just means go the extra mile, for instance i tell all my clients at work, if you need your bangs trimed or your neck neatend up come on in and i wont charge you, thats giving the pickle...now if they have not been in in three months and need there neck shaved, then no they have to pay or if they bring in a bottle of shampoo that is almost gone no it does not get returned...
I am one of those that works for a company where this video is required viewing. I LOVED IT! I actually borrowed it from work and brought it home for my kids to watch. It seems customer service has drasticaly declined in EVERY type of service company. Our younger employess said they "weren't going to kiss a customers butt". I explained to them you will if you want to stay employed. You can always wipe off your lips after they leave. This full video should be required viewing at high schools!!!
Loved this video! To clarify one thing....as a former Nordstrom employee, The Tire Story is true, however, a little side note. The Nordstrom that was taking the tire back, had previously been a tire store, (but then torn down, completely gutted and made into a Nordstrom). HOWEVER, that said.....that is typical of Nordstrom service, or should be!
depends how much the cost of the burger and shake is. If you loose more by them not buying the meal, it doesn't matter if you've saved $100 bucks on the pickles, if you've lost his business for ever.

Unfortunately, nowadays it seems like customers are more likely to get the finger than the pickle.

Am I the only one that can see customers taking advantage of this concept lol. I know Wal-mart does that in returns.
