  • proud to be manx

  • I really like your little isle and Manx sounds very beautiful.

Too sad that only a little of you can speak this "new old language", but who nows what will happen in the future...

    Best wishes from Germany

  • @Girrovv The number of people speaking Manx Gaelic is increasing steadily. We have an all-Manx school that teaches all subjects in Manx. No English is spoken at all during school hours.

There are also many free courses available for people who wish to learn the language. There are, however, more people singing in Manx than are speaking in. (I'm a singer, but not a speaker). Hopefully, in time, Manx will become widespread again :)

  • @AtharAqua I nver knew that was even a language :( but I want to visit it :D

  • bywyd hir, Ynys Manaw

  • the flag scares me

  • @fyx13579 That's a sicilian flag copycat.

  • Does anybody speak Manx anymore in the Isle of Man? This is a question asked purely out of curiosity & have no other motive.Myself an Indian Bengali.

  • @amitabharex some people speak it but not in everyday language like with no smoking signs they have it in english and manx :)

  • It's also the place that your Linux OS disks are sent from, God bless IOM!

  • The Nazis did occupy the Isle of Man in WWII

  • @Snitfit no they didn't. They occupied the channel islands in Normandy, which like the isle of man are separate nations owned by the british crown not part of the UK......

  • Why not make Douglas the capital of all Mankind...

Isle of Man...I want to visit this place and see the scenery. It's like Ireland but apparently a bit cleaner.

  • Isle of Man Ellan Vannin Island of Manannan Gaelic God of the Sea, Neptune. It has nothing to do with Mankind.

  • @BAC1954 That's good to know..it means that women are also respected and welcome then...

  • OMG its only 37 seconds long

  • This flag reminds me of the nazi flag. Are these flags related?

  • WHO WOULD SERIOUSLY NAME THEIR ISLAND AFTER MAN!?!?!??!?!?!?! Cheetos.

  • @JesusFish91 I prefer Isle of Woman.

  • independance for manx

  • @mrmagicroundcircle You can'[t even spell the word independence, so your opinion doesn't matter you fuckwit.

  • @maureenOWW not surprised you spend your life on a keyboard name like maureen suggests wizened up face and dried up redundant snatch.

  • @mrmagicroundcircle o no, suggests power, the real kind, not the christain nastiness of controll and no honour of sexor loving that makes such angry people as yourself..

  • @gwirgalon the comment is for manx people only so i suggest you mind your own business

  • @mrmagicroundcircle what an unroyal idiot you are, mean and stupid, all together. NO, it IS my business, both as a woman and as your celtic cousin. Go learn your correct business you poor unhappy and stupid person, and leave other people alone with your verbal little stinkbombs that only point a finger of ugliness at yourself.

And grow up, the world and our celtic world needs people who care for it, not people who vomit their own undone business on others.

  • @gwirgalon sound like a typical plastic celt to me .spewing out idiotic diatribe .would appreciate if you wouldnt respond to this post go and hump some elses leg .goodday.

  • to everyone talking about the swastika, its an ANCIENT jewish symbol that means peace or something like that. it somehow got to europe and at least THERE it means peace. it also somehow got to the navajos, maybe developed it on their own and they used it to symbolize themselves. at some point in time microsoft had something on the computers with all the symbols for all the cultures, and they got in trouble for putting the navajo "swastika" on there lol. swastika certainly isnt its real name tho!

  • @GDarkGoombaG Swastika is not an ancient Jeiwsh symbol. If there is an ancient Jewish symbol that everyone knows about, it is the Star of David, not the swastika. It originated in India as a syombolization of peace and the Germans adopted it as the symbol of the Nazi Party, just like the republican and democratic parties have in America. Why would the Germans (in the 1939-1945 Nazi regime) adopt a symbol created by the Jewish people. It's common sense..

  • @KuwaitF22 well, israelite or whatever they were called bakc then. judeaen? either way the symbol was found in five thousand year old "jewish" ruins, and it either spread around or other cultures invented it by themselves. i know the navajos used it but i doubt it spread to them so they probably made it themselves separately. either way its a five thousand year old symbol of peace that, in john daley's words, the nazis ruined for everyone. lol. they adopted it cuz of its meaning

  • @XQuayleXx K, I was in a really bad mood yesterday :S

  • @XQuayleXx NO IT IS NOT!! IT IS A SELF GOVERNMENT AND I SHOULD KNOW THAT BECAUSE MY DAD IS HIGH IN IT, IT IS NOT IN THE UK!!

  • @Mengoraa

    Who is your dad ?

  • @phantom607 Attorney General, And btw I was REALLY angry then Because I got annoyed at friend so sorry :S

  • @Mengoraa

no worries, I was just curious, thats all. :-)

  • beautiful place, the jewel of britain

  • What a short anthem... Obviously, because it was created by people who live in a very small island. I feel sorry for the flag too, because it reminds me the Nazi Germany, but in this case, are 3 instead of 4 legs. Too bad, my dear Manx inhabitants...

  • The Isle of Man has a national anthem?!

  • populated by British TAX dodgers

  • @toonmag50 we arn't a tax haven we have less tax because we don't need it due to our MP's arn't shoveling it into their back pockets.

  • @ScottishNonBeliever How do you work that one out?

  • I am very proud of my Manx heritiage. My great great grandparents were born there in the 1830's and I remain a manxman at heart. Visited the IOM 10 years ago and hope to get back soon. Many people ask me about the flags I have in my home and the triskelion. I tell them it's the Manx flag of course.

  • i love the iom ive lived there my hole life and all ways will nise to no people no about us on the little rock lol it is a good place nise people but to many people come ova frm tailand and a manx man can not get work for fuck... but anyway its a good place to live. im manx and proud all the way

  • FOR YOU INFORMATION the Manx flag does not look anything like a swastika, and the swastika was originally white on black, and a symbol for peace, so i suggest you get you facts right. It was the official manx flag before ww2

  • LMFAO IT LOOKS LIKE A SWASTIKA

  • To the long string of posters arguing about race & culture:

I LOL in your general direction.

    Some people have no lives.

  • fucking shitty island, full of jeremy kyle trash

  • is them 3 things legs degozaruka?

  • actually the Isle of Man is in the United Kingdom, and is in the European Union automatically with the rest of the UK.

  • @Koloszrodosthe I think you'll find that the IOM is NOT part of the UK, nor is it part of the EU. It is, however, self-governing, crown dependency and a tax-free haven.

  • @bacabu30 who the fuck cares about the isle of man.... nobody.... insignificant tiny island

  • @TheTwollocks I'm sure the people who actually live there care. After all, if it's their island and home, I'm sure most of them are proud of it and have an attachment to it. Beyone that, it doesn't really matter what people outside of the IOM think. It's immaterial.

  • @bacabu30 oh look its an irish catholic ira supporter trying to drum up a bit of support...lol

  • @TheTwollocks Support for what exactly? What are you even on about? I have absolutely no idea. And I'm neither Catholic nor an IRA supporter, you foolish fantasist.

  • @bacabu30 so why do you have loads of ira supporting freinds then..... typical ira supporting dickhead....full of shit

  • @bacabu30 would you say the same about the falklands and gibralter ...i await your answer

  • @TheTwollocks Yes, why not. I'd say it about everywhere. Duh.

  • @bacabu30 ... no you ira supporters always support the argies and spannish when it comes to who owns the falklands and gibralter .... ive never once heard an ira supporter say oh its up to the people of the falklands to decide what happens to thier islands..... you are so two fucking faced

  • @TheTwollocks You're a complete and utter moron and don't actually even deserve a response, even a dumb one. Who ever said I was an IRA supporter?? Where did that come out of? I certainly am not, you nutjob. And since when was anyone talking about people deciding what happens to their islands? When did this conversation even happen? I think you must be a schizo and having conversations with yourself in your own head. And learn how to spell 'Spanish'.

  • @TheTwollocks As I said, I've no idea what you're ranting on about. Who mentioned about self-determination (I think that's the word you're looking for)? I think you've been having a conversation with yourself, mate. I only stated the FACT initially that the IOM is NOT part of the UK and never has been. If that FACT somehow upsets you, that's your own business, but don't take it out on others! Maybe go see a therapist for your anger issues. You're the one who has disrespected the Isle of Man.

  • @bacabu30 right you dont live on the isle of man... so why are you taking such an interest

  • @Koloszrodosthe

The Isle of Man is not part of the United Kin gdom, and is not part of the European Union. The United Kingdom consistes of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The Isle of Man is a British Crown Colony. There is only one British colony that is part of the European Union and that is Gibraltar.

  • @MightySerbianFighter Why so? It merely depicts a Triskelion : an ancient symbol which goes back to the Neolithic period. The Sicilian flag also features the same symbol. Nothing to do with Nazism, if that's what you were thinking.

At least it doesn't feature a monarchist symbol (crown) on it, like your's does;-)

I preferred your old flag , the Partisan one with the Red Star on it.....Tito was a very great man, unlike any monarchs I can mention!

Learn about the Manx before you critcise them.

  • @RedBryn i didnt mean to show any dissrespect.and you have to admit that our flag is nice because it is

  • hey thats the sign of the old italian rebel state sicily

  • I'm french and i live in isle of man for two years and half now..and i love this flag,i respect this flag..douglas is so boring village so with sun is lovely island.cheers, bye

  • People have to lay of with the whole Nazi symbol bullshit.

And yes it is a British Crown dependency, one of those political oddballs which are made to be tax havens. Though its easy to see why many think its apart of the U.K many Brits move there. I wouldn't be surprised if it, and many crown dependencies are brought into the U.K given the economic crisis at some point in the future.

  • the isle of man is clased as part of the uk

  • @david128122 ah no it is not "part of the uk". It is a self-governing British Crown Dependency. There is a difference.

  • Hmmm...

What an odd symbol for a national flag.

By the way, that's not swastika, that's a triskelion.

Triskelions are very common in traditional Celtic art (including on jewelry and weapons), and a large part of the population there, is of Celtic descent.

Although triskelions traditionally weren't in the shape of human legs.

  • anyway ,20% goe,s to all you sorry people who can only vent you,r rubish and rottenes on others to relieve the hatered inside of you 80% goe,s to all of us who finds enjoyment from looking at this great technology provided for every, ones pleasure .!! thank god.

  • @jonRnash - Urmmmmm.... Hey, if you don't like it there's a fucking boat twice a day!

  • @jonRnash - so LEAVE!!!!

  • Quocunque jeceris stabit- whatever you throw, it will stand. I've always found this a solid philosophy amongst my Manx friends, yesser!

  • Means absolutely nothing essentially

  • Comment removed

  • Because of personal circumstances i lived on the isle of man. I've lived in many parts of Britain and other islands, but none of them are as bad as the island. People hide behind their flag and faux-patriotism instead of making any changes. The night life is awful (locals will tell you that), its safer than a city centre but barely different to similar sized uk towns (there's no CCTV on the IoM so less statistics) and the countryside is nice but so are many parts of scotland, wales and england

  • Comment removed

  • It basically isn't any different - no contradiction at all.

  • One more leg and it would be a swastika

  • I had my first "flying" family holiday to the IOM-many years ago.

From Newcastle to Ronaldsway on British Island Airways,Handley page Hereld-oh yes .Beautiful place great memories.

  • Maybe the isle of man should have the national anthem "Jake the Peg" with his extra leg by Rolf Harris. lol

  • I prefer Ellan Vannin. It has soul.

  • i am manx born and the the three legs of mann mean 'which ever way you throw me, i will aways stand'. i am proud to be born manx and shame on some people who disrespect my home by calling it a shit hole.

  • But it is a shit hole. If more people here recognised that rather than hiding behind pretend patriotism and suggesting everything is ok because "xxxxx is better than accross", then maybe the island might improve. Apathy. Compared to similar sized towns and villages accross and the general countryside, the IoM is pretty shit and the people are stuck up their own arses patting each other on back about how good the island supposedly is. My mum used to tell me i was the best, didn't mean it was true

  • rip jonny myers legend of aviation,, really good in the air

  • The three legs just mean the Isle of Man government can run away faster to avoid facing uo to its responsibilities. Just check the "Don't Bank on the Isle of Man" videos.

  • Comment removed

  • cool, three disembodied legs with football shoes

  • What's with the legs? O_o

  • It means whatever way you throw us we will stand

  • @supershikoku No the three leg emblem of the I.o.M means historically "wherever you throw me I stand."

  • i like the Isle of Man's flag -- it looks like the Sicilian flag. so it means that Manx people and Sicilian people kick lots of ass LOL

  • i have a teenager named arthur living with my family from there right know. hes getting his pilots liscense

  • haha lol is that a country fuck of!

  • cunt features!!

  • no weed dont look like mutants you FREAK!!!!

  • Nonbe1iever, the 3 legs are a symbol for the island, meaning that whichever way you're going to throw me, I will stand.

That is why it has 3 legs.

  • What's the best - your football, Gaelic football, or rugby team?

  • Sorry for the late reaction, I only came to watch this video right now. Thanks for the information about the 3 legs.

I think it is a beautiful thought that is behind this flag.

  • What so gay about that? I live there.

  • Think about it, it sounds like the name of a gay bar- isle of man.

  • oh yes well ofcourse then it must be shit.

I love the way people slag other countries, Insecure are we?

  • wait good point.

  • Lol what a shit place to live lmfao

  • It's unfortunate, but to be fair, the Manx flag was dreamt up centuries before Hitler started picking on Jewish people.

  • @BobMonkfish its such an amazing looking sign the swastika its a shame we cant use it becasue people get offended.

  • @BobMonkfish It doesn't even look like a swastika? :P

  • Best National Anthem in the World

    MANX AND PROUD OF IT

  • nothing else to say but shit hole of a country

  • stupd scottish prick no values, i guess your a big fat ginger over weight cunt

  • Eh! No need to be racist! Some Scots actually like the Isle of Man, like me!

  • i'll also come in and say that he is not a valid voice of the scots!

i know a few folk tat have gone over to the isle of man and said that the locals have good chat and enjoyed their time there (tho i think they went for the tt so they were bound to)

  • wtf

  • im from spain and im deeply in love with the isle of man¡¡¡¡ i was born in spain but i feel of the isle of man/manish¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • yes it does , but as taloncompany mark says , it was a symbol of the indo-european peoples , concretly that symbol of the flag is not indo-european , it comes from celtic people and its called triskelion

  • It also relates to the Manx sea god Mannanin who tried to defeat St Patrick by transforming into three legs and attempting to run him down. But Patrick survived. The Manx "sloagan" also links with the flag - "Which ever way you throw me, I will stand."

  • Whoa I thought I knew my geography pretty well, either someone is playing a big joke on me or I need to take another look at the maps.

  • Beautiful!

  • Love you guys!! Greetings from the Faroe Islands ^^

  • Stop killing whales, then we can talk.

  • Stop KFC, McDonalds, Burger King then we can talk..

  • Pardon? My country doesn't own KFC McDonalds or Burger King.

Or are you trying to equate intelligent animals slowly drowning in their own blood as they are butchered alive with the five seconds or so it takes to kill a cow?

  • The whales die instantly. And since when is a whale more worthy than any other animal ? That sir, is discrimination. Secondly, they don't drown in they're own blood.

  • 'The whales die instantly' - oh, so the half-hour film of them struggling to breathe as they flop about in their own blood after having their fins chopped off, that's just special effects is it? The blood spurting out of their blowholes, they're just doing that for the fun of it?

    Are you insane???

  • What the hell have you been watching ?! It's nothing like that.. Christ.

  • Because they have a bigger brain you diseased fuckstick. Body mass to brain mass ratio is how you determine intelligence, and whales are near the top of the list. Just how ignorant ARE you, hmm?

  • Dude, you are the one to call me ignorant ? So basically, killing stupid people is okay then ? The intellectual should survive and breed one superior race and fuckin' harvest the unintelligent ? The animals didn't do this to themselves, they were born like that, some smart, others not so smart, so they coulden't do anything about it. But killing the stupid is ok ?

  • 'But killing the stupid is ok ?' - in your case, yes.

I'm talking about ability to feel stress by the animal, and intellect plays a huge part in that. An animal that knows it is going to be killed will suffer more than one who can't comprehend the concept. Whales communicate and have close family ties, second only to primates, when one is being cut to pieces the others are completely aware and hear their screams of pain, which stresses them and makes them panic as can be seen in the videos.

  • Can you link me to one of these "videos" ? It seems like you have been watching some messed up cult try to kill them with a fistfight.

  • Look on youtube for: Danmark Massacre - Whaling in the Faroe Islands

Tell me if you think these animals are dying 'instantly', which is what you said earlier.

They APPEAR to be struggling to breath while bleeding to death and flopping about in their own blood and guts, as their family members (i.e. the other whales) die around them. The whole thing, as you well know, takes several minutes, Now, would YOU like to be murdered with the rest of your family while being drowned in this way?

  • We don't love you, it's illegal to kill any marine mammal in manx waters, and fish such as the basking shark are protected.

The world will keep hating you until you stop being medieval primitives.

  • Oh noes, someone on the internet hates me, my life is incomplete. Get a life, bum. We are killing Pilot Whales, not any other species, retard. Not some Basking Shark.

  • someone can told me where to find or download the complete vocal anthem in english and gaelic?

  • If Mark Cavendish is from the Isle of Man, this must be a great place!

    Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • Hi greetings from the Isle of Man from one who has relatives in the Netherlands it is a great place to live and easy to get to 1 hour flight Amsterdam to Liverpool then 25 min flight Liverpool to Isle of Man come over some time

  • Hey, tnx bikermanx1! You are an islander just like me, as I live on one of the islands in the southwest of NL. The Isle of Man fascinates me and I hope to visit it soon!

Greetings and all the best to you and your relatives in NL. J.D. from Zeeland.

  • hi theriddler55 you will always be welocme over here on the wonderful Isle of Man if somehow you can make contact without disclosing your email address to the world would be happy to give you my details and if possible show you around no catch

  • Mark Cavendish is from the Isle of Man though he's not very popular because he's a bit of a knob. He also said in a cycling magazine that he said he felt he was English but from the Isle of Man which i don't think would have gone down well with the over-patriotic pricks that are the Manx people.

  • Who cares what Cavendish thinks (great Manx name, btw - not). The IOM has been part of Norway, it's been part of Scotland, but NEVER part of England so Cavendish is just being ignorant and provocative - which he is in general, from what I understand.

  • @costedmn How do you know they're all pricks? You been to Jurby?

  • im manx and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am from HongKong also LOVE it!!

  • I went to a show at the Gaiety Theatre and the audience had to stand up and sing this before it started. I felt awkward as I'm from Hertfordshire and didn't know the words!

  • Hey you went to the Gaiety theatre. You know some people here say its haunted by three or four ghosts.

  • Is that in Douglas?!

I was visiting family (im from Canada) and felt like I was pushed from behind while ghost touring an old Theatre near my hotel!

  • they don't play it at all shows, however if you are not required to stand for a national anthem that isn't yours.

  • I don't know much about my family heritage but my last name is Ramsey. There is a Port Ramsey on the Isle of Man. So maybe I am a Manx too?

  • there is a town in the north of the Island called Ramsey

  • dont say tht....

  • I suppose someone at some time had to make this common wankerish statement regarding the Triskelion, and Vilmenhart, it fell to you . . .

  • Well said, BigCBig. That comment was well out of order and utterly ignorant.

  • prolly a 19yo virgin frustrated with life. lol

  • Manx Radio used to closedown every night at

1am with a lovely vocal version of this recorded on top with a voiceovered closedown sequence in Manx and English do you have it!

  • if you contact manx radio you may be able to get a copy not 100% sure though they are in douglas

  • do you know the isle do not want hooligans they would want somebody like me

  • The Island of Man is where Lord Robin was born, in Douglas and it is so special to be able to hear the National Anthem of this beautiful Island where two beautiful babies were born on 22/12/1949 to Hugh and Barbara Gibb's . Robin and Maurice!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks!

  • almost one leg away from a swastika...
