I know I've got a Euro import of the Big Science album-the addition of their drummer made an immense difference, but this is one of their best "beatbox" songs.
thanks for posting, it has been a long time since I have heard this song. I remember this song being played in the clubs and dancing away to it....those were the days
Love this song, their music is very sexy to me, the sinewy funky bass lines, the ethereal synths, but not in a vulgar obvious way like a lot of the junk out there nowdays.
am I the only one who misses Carl Marsh's presence /vocals from all the recent so called "Shriekback" things? I love Barry and owe him a debt but I don't like the role he has played in the Shriekback art as of late, not one single bit. It was more of a tribal effort in the 80's. It seemed to become a 1 man show after that. Of course wtf does an outsider know .
@mysticliar I agree with you. I think the original marsh/andrew/barker Shriekback is tremendous. Barry did some good stuff on his own after but the original lineup is my favorite.
Carl Marsh was so great. I can listen to Jam Science over and over agin. Never mind Tench and Care...JS was awsome. Too bad he left just before Oil and Gold was produced.
Bought this a life time ago, still got it, wunt sell it. Only just over 9,000 people have shown interest. Thats hell of a lot of people that are missing out then!!!!!!
I have this version on 12" vinyl & CD. Groovediggeroo's correct. There are other remixes that are a little different. This is the best one for sure. There are several greatest hits compilations that include it, but only one has or had this particular mix (I believe). I remember it being a pain trying to find it on CD way back when. I added it to my itunes play list directly from the CD.If there's a way to make a copy from the CD & email it, let me know and I'll send it to you.
the version here is from the 12" single .... you can find used vinyl copies for sale on websites like gemm or discogs (make sure you get the one with the exact cover art that appears in this video, there were other remixes released that sound different) ... there is no legal digital download available to my knowledge
Just get "Natural History," their greatest hits compilation, on CD. It won't be the extended version, but it'll be close enough. Get a copy of Audacity (free audio editor) and you can do your own remix easily enough.
There's a very good website called lavamus(dot)com...I checked already, they have quite a few shriekback works including jam science. I've used this site loads its very cheap, 50 dollars gets you a rate where each track is 11 cents each...plus you get 20 tracks free....520 tracks! The quality and choice is excellent ( over 4 million mp3 tracks...I shit you not!) average file size from 6 to 10 MB and all in at least 192 compression bit rate. I do not work for them!
dave clarke was indeed bass player with gof.........a far better band than shriekback imo...........however the fact he played with them encouraged me to see shriekback many times........great band

This is perhaps the best Shriekback song, but somehow not available anywhere in print.

I always liked the rhythmic "dot matrix printer" sounds, I wonder if they used one to make that in the song.

This version is on the UK version of the greatest hits CD, but it is NOT on the US version. The US version has the regular album version on it.

Shriekback and "The Forum" did not change your life.
You did by waking up your mind. Whatever works for you, just don't go back to sleep...
This song rocks, still....the groove bass is so clean...

Sorry, Dave Allen hits the bass...

If I remember right, the bass player is Dave Clarke, former member of Gang Of Four. Check' em out!!!
