I let my hubby and daughter watch this last nite ~ my hubby loves your choice of music in your videos ~ my daughter wants your book ~ and we were wondering what the silly putty looking stuff is? Was that to erase the pencil lines or....?

Fake? Heavens no. I believe Adam is faithfully recreating his great-grandfather's work similar to how Walt Kelly's son kept Pogo going for a few more years after Walt's untimely death.
