I remember my older cousin having this on 7" when I was a kid though I have never actually heard it. I've waited 41 years to listen to this and you know what? It's fucking shit.
I was 22 and serving in a tavern in Seattle, Wa....the Canadian bands were there all the time. Yes, what a party that job was. Ahem. 33 yrs ago, LoL. Nowadays, I get on that spin cycler and cardio my high.
Rocked a HotRod Competition Orange Nova to this on the cruises in Fremont, Livermore, San Jose, Petaluma, Sacramento, ohhh man!! You get the idea!! Rock ON!!! Oh.. a small system by comparison to todays... 400 watts, most thru 4 8"Pyles.. boxed the right way.. 2 mids, 2 tweets.. 12 band Jetsound EQ... very very clean sound! Rock ON!!
Whoo-hoo! Excellent. I've bought this album at least twice (I'm old enough to have had vinyl failure). Amazing to hear it online, I've seen April Wine live. As an old fart whose hearing is going away, it doesn't matter so much about the stylus, cartridge, pre-amp and bass-reflex speaker technology anymore. This is kick-ass stuff.
I know it's not cool to put someone down for having an opinion. But I'm doing it anyways. I really do feel sorry for the 6 people who dislike this song. It rocks. And I truly believe that if this doesn't throw your hair back nothing does and you do like music at all it's because it's the sound corporations are ramming down your throat and just use to those sounds. Be honest with yourselves. Nothing today is inspiring and if there a song here and ther that is it doesn't compare to the past
@heyman29323 i agree with everything but the last sentence.. you clearly havent listened to bands like mumford and sons, the john butler trio, and the dropkick murphys.. and other bands like that. there isnt much to say though, the 2000's have SUCKED in terms of music..
@heyman29323 truly believe what you say.BUT. your to damned polite! If people dont recognise this as a great rock song, rhen they bettter pull their heads out of theirr ass'
Love this one!! This was one of my favorite songs growing up! Canada has put out some great stuff. Liked Trooper - two for the show, and Doucette- Mama let him play!
@ianflux54 I heard ELO was coming to town(detroit) 1978 with special guest to be announced, tickets only available over phone I called and got main floor row 22,special guest was Heart!
"Canada has some amazing music artists. This is definitely one of them"
They have a LOT of great talent in Canada. But,as is the case with the States & the rest of the world, theres always going to be a province (city) that cliques out other bands.Yet despite this, great bands STILL break through..
The drummer was considered one of the best in the music industry ,the guy could play like 2 foot drums ,somewhere between 6 - 8 stick drums and 5 -6 cymbals ,with out missing a beat his setup was monstrous
Also just add The Nature of the Beast could of sold like 10 to 12 million copies, but only did 1 million in the states which in 81 was not much it would be today. Harder Faster and First glance could of easily sold 5 to 8 million copies as well.
These guys are so underrated. Are mainstream acts like AC/DC, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen even aware of April Wine? if so they definitely dont get the credit they dissever Jerry Mercer is never even in the conversation for greatest drummer and he right behind Niel Peart in my opinion. Had a ton of hits, if they were from Detroit or LA they would be right up there with the Beatles. What a shame the band had it just could not break out to big markets in US.
@uchihaitachii88 Admittedly, most rap is utter garbage, the so called "gangsta rap". However, there are those that send a positive message mixed with nice beats. If anything, appreciate the meaningful lyrics (however few there may be). e.g. Nas- "I know I can", various Immortal Technique songs, etc.
@gregboyds Fuck you. What you got against Canadians? Did we beat you in hockey? Did we do more for a war of yours than you ever could have? Have we saved more lives internationally than your country? Well, what the fuck is it? Oh, and since your channel is not available I'm gonna guess that your unwilling to accept criticism of your bigotry. Jackass.
@doublescotchonice you know how people are. They put things down that they think they know about to make them self's feel better. I've met a lot a great Canadians and never worried about where they came from besides the initial interest in a place I've never been.
My dad says he saw these guys play in his HIGH SCHOOL when he was a wee lad, and clearly when AR were tryin to make a name for themselves. Kinda interesting where big artists got started.
april wine was the shit back in the day. todays losers can't even come close to what real rock n roll is even like. none of todays losers has any talent or imagination.
@daddyishot2 Why keep calling people losers just because the music they play sucks ass? Most are not likely playing what they want or what they truly think is good, but rather end up playin what their record company wants them to play. It relates to the corporate media's coercion of the figures that have influence over masses. It's all about the money to them [corporate media], so don't always blame the artists.
@doublescotchonice I would say your half way correct on this. Most of today's artists are influenced by what they hear on the radio: corporate record companies selling a new product to it's listeners. "The new sound" which may not be very good, but It's what they play 24/7 and the kids end up liking it. It becomes theirs. Every generation has it's own identity and their will be a few that end up creating their own sound from the underground. Record co.s end up milking it to the end.
I love april wine but I just realized that the end of this song sounds exactly like the end of "how many more times" by led zeppelin skip to like 8 minutes in and you'll know what I'm talking about
1978, my Senior year in High School, Damn , what a flashback, ass kickin rock, hot high school honey's, everybody had good "weed", I had just turned 18 and was old enough to "buy the beer". FM was in it's infancy, 8-tracks were moving to cassettes, and a lot of kids were buying FM converters

@LiveLaughLoveSmile63 did they play all their big tunes? Im gonna go see them this Friday, but they have had band members switch, so did they play the tunes?
Now if only got I into music younger. I really want to learn how to play the guitar or drums lol. I hate to state the obvious but this band is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!
Love this song I cant understand why people make negative comments about Canadian bands.I went to see this band in concert, let me tell you they ROCKED the place.I MEAN COME ON PEOPLE RUSH,TRIUMPH dont know how to rock.I gotta differ with you on this one and I am from the Ole USA.Thumbs up to our brothers up north.
Good tune, I was fortunate enough to meet one of the members of the band at his cottage (believe it was Blair Mackay but might be wrong) that I did some work not far from where I live. Pretty cool in my books to meet someone from April Wine.
Great band, saw them in manchester in 78 and have to sday they are one of the loudest bands i've ever seen, the kick drum and bass guitar just thudded against your chest.
Please ignore that: robertjohnson487 He's obviously touched-in-the-head! To everyone out there... This guy is in every Posting possible, attempting to create an argument! "He is just an idiot"! Tsk Tsk
I first started listening to this group in 1973 when I was ten years old and liked them since then until I found out that they are Canadian. Oh well, plenty of other groups to listen to.
Great song! This is the single edit version, unfortunately. I'm used to the longer guitar solo.

Good tune, I was fortunate enough to meet one of the members of the band at his cottage (believe it was Blair Mackay but might be wrong) that I did some work not far from where I live. Pretty cool in my books to meet someone from April Wine.

I agree with ShellTrek somewhat, but I have to believe that Rush made US Radio Stations take notice of Canadian Rock.
But I do love April Wine and Roller is awesome.

Great band, saw them in manchester in '78, one of the loudest bands i've ever seen, the kick drum and bass guitar just thudded against your chest.

I first started listening to this group in 1973 when I was ten years old and liked them since then until I found out that they are Canadian. Oh well, plenty of other groups to listen to.
