I love Celine as much as the next person, but I have to say I think Josh Groban did a better job of this. Might be because I tend to prefer male singers, but it's just my opinion. Nonetheless, she's as elegant and beautiful, and angelic as always!
People used to make fun of Celine for the strenuous precautions she took regarding her voice, but when you compare her to most of the other divas of her era, you can hear just how well her voice has held up.
she is so angelic.....She is the person i strive to be like every single day of my life....there isnt a day that goes by that i dont wish i could meet her.
@sunset7070 yea theres always a few missing-thanks for mentioning her--she was a great actress-very pretty-she left ,departed on April 25, 2010, in Bremerton, Washington
I definately got incredibly choked up when they showed Leslie Nielsen. Naked Gun came out when I was 4...and I've been a huge fan of the series my whole life. Also....VERY beautifully sung!
she did great on this performance though it's sad the academy forgot Corin Redgrave even though they remembered his baby sister Lynn who passed barely a month after him
I have never seen her so beautiful like this before. Maybe it's because she's not so skinny as before. Really hope she maintain this weight and not go back to her skinny shape again. Her voice is always amazing thou I am never never a fan of hers.
Wow, look at all the Celine Dion fans flooding this video with praise. I'd prefer comments on an In Memoriam video to be directed at those dear dead. Not at the background noise from the living.
I was in shock when John Barry was shown. That to me marks the end of all movies to me. I don't think our movies will be as inspirational as it was before. Seeming though the world demands more vengeance rather than peace, i think our society will be facing its own dark ages for its moral hypocrisy of right and wrong. I wouldn't bare trying to live in this crap world to think the world is at its best right now. The problem to me isn't the war, its you guys as consumers as well as technology. RIP
Am I the only one who finds it slightly disrespectful to these wonderful people, that they seemed to focus a little less on their performances and work, and more on Celine Dion's singing?
@GalacticPenguin it's all about evoking emotion in people. i see nothing wrong with that. i'm curious if you complained in previous years when the academy had people singing for the memorium.
WOW -- I hadn't heard that Susannah York died. Thisis so sad.... she was such a wonderful actress... versatile, totally dedicated to her art, and a beautiful, unique screen presence. A great loss.
Celine is truly amazing in her eyes and in her voice there is unlimited beauty like each and every human! some just have it out there and some others are still struggling with little negative ideas. we should all learn how to express our inner truth to shine like she does!
Bad version of the song. Even worse they always leave out names, had they not been so obsessed as usual with showing the singer (this ought to be instrumental anyway) they'd gotten more in there deserving of inclusion. Such as Peter Haskell, Per Oscarsson, John Crawford, Harold Gould, Bruno Cremer, Christopher Cazenove, Gary Coleman, Ingrid Pitt, George DiCenzo, Maury Chaykin, Simon MacCorkindale, Tom Bosley, James Gammon, Lisa Blount, James MacArthur, Jill Haworth, Rue McClanahan, Bruce Gordon.
@jghor23 Ur a fucking joke. John Barry is one of the greatest 20th century composers. He wrote the James Bond theme which defined James Bond as a whole. Corey Haim is nothing but a loser who only got fame in The Lost Boys and who is a drug addict just on the age of 15. From that, I conclude that you're nothing but a loser, teen drug addict who doesn't have taste in music and in movies. BTW, you know who's a nobody? YOU ARE!
@idioticscheme666 Wow, you mentioned one name on the list out of how many. And read the comment stupid ass. It said 90 percent! I know who John Barry is. And hes more remembered for his Dances with Wolves score that won him an OSCAR moron.
R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen. :(

I think this, with a close second by Yo-Yo Ma's performance in '05, is the best In Memoriam performance.

Just thought I'd ask. And I noticed they didn't mention Corey Haim either.
Still this was one of the best moments of this years Oscars.
