There has been a lot of talk about how kids should simply be taken for walks in the woods or desert or by streams rather than told about the scary things involving environmental problems. Supposedly, telling kids the bad stuff would make them cynical and detached, while the quiet walks in the woods would make them genuinely care. Well, I grew up in the 80's in utter terror of nuclear war. But I ended up loving nature.
I think the evolution process (which is the most basic natural process) has caused several species to go extinct too. So, disappearance of species isn't a natural tragedy on its own. However I agree that it should be based on natural selection rather than human interference.
