  • Thumbs up if you have trouble distinguishing Catelyn from The Hound in this video...yikes.

  • This video got me thinking... Dany needs something very bad happening to her, or she will turn into a Mary Sue.

Maybe she could get burned by her own dragons, and become hound-like :P

  • peter dinklage=perfect.

  • Great books... really hard to read. Especially if you're not a fan of the "all good characters must die, because the story is real" type of writhing. Really curious to see how that kind of stuff would do on TV.

  • Lannister soldier helmets are meh :S

In the book they have helmets with the shape of a lion head.

  • I remember the first time I read the "Red Wedding". I shouted "NO!" threw the book across my bedroom. It took me two weeks to come to terms with the depths of the author's writing style. I was glad I did.

  • awesome

  • look its Boromir!! He is still alive!

  • @Scoob505 Not for long :P

  • @Scoob505 YEAHHHHHHH...

  • Well, all I have to say is that if one wants to make a show about a story of violent fantasy and struggles for power, there is no better place to have it air than on HBO. Other networks may shy away from such violence, but HBO embraces it, good thing this adaptation is airing on HBO, at least we will get the full scale of its epic stories rather than polished and politically correct versions.

  • @BetaArtemis And they may decide it's too expensive and cut it after a season or two.

  • HODOR!

  • this looks to be in really bad taste.

  • Littlefinger!

  • If anyone has any questions about the story or the characters ask me I've read the books 4 times so far.

  • @mchumandeluxe one basic question - looks like a good adaptation, yes or no?

  • Sean Bean, Lena Hedley, Mark Addy...god this show looks amazing...

  • THIS LOOKS INCREDIBLE!

  • 8:54 - 9:12 Her passion for this show and story...I think I'm in love. God I'm such a geek. Is it wrong that she's playing a 14-year old? >.>

  • @MarneusB She's seventeen (I think) in the show.

  • @shro0my0

Nope, Dany in the books is 14-15

  • @nikthemute Hence why I specified "in the show."

They've increased her age to make the events of her journey a little more palatable for the TV audience.

  • @shro0my0 I wondered if they would age her up a bit. Same with Arya Id imagine as well.

  • Loved seeing Littlefinger, Illryo, Viserys, THE HOUND. and is that Old Nan speaking at the end?

  • HOT PIE!

  • Mmm...Jason Momoa... The blonde chick reminds me of Emilie De Ravin. And I am determined to read the book before April.

  • omg omg omg is that Sandor at 8:40

  • @TheBraveKitten heck yeah, none other..just look at that badass helmet and armor and the deformed face of the owner..lol.

  • Dear R.R.

FINISH YOUR FUCKING BOOK SERIES FIRST. make pretty videos for the illiterates later m'kay?

  • cant wait...

  • @coasal Yeah, dying becomes him :-D

  • Ok what the hell is going on at 9:50 just after the Sam shot, there is a shot of what looks like Ned with a bloody face, a noose tied around his neck, and the iron throne in the background. Anyone got any ideas?

  • @JackoThe1st Yeah- it's actually not Ned, but his older brother in a flashback scene (notice the white-haired Targaryen on the throne behind him). You can do a google search for "Brandon Stark" if you want to know more about what's going on in the scene.

  • @raptormeat Oh your right. That makes more sense. Here's hoping we see Jaime in action earning his unofficial title as well. I think it shows how dedicated they are to making this series faithful to the books when they include and actually film all the back story.

  • @JackoThe1st Great points, and thanks for bringing my attention to that scene. Like you, I just sort of thought they'd gloss over that background stuff. Man, it just keeps getting better and better!

  • i find perfect Dany; great Ned (even if i was skeptical about "Boromir"), very beautiful Cersei, ok Arya - don't really like Robert, Jon Snow and Jaime...

Btw, seems everything faithful to the books and can't wait to see it!

  • @JoaoAlv3s

Come to think of it, the sopranos/csi metaphor is pretty fitting here -- starting from the fact that pretty much every protagonist from aSoIF would be considered profoundly evil in Tolkienverse.

  • @JoaoAlv3s

I have read both the series, and pretty much the only thing they have in common is sweaty guys in armor hitting each other with swords. Seriously, given the constraint that they are based in a medieval fantasy realm, I cannot think how they could be more different.

So, without commenting on the quality of the works, saying LoTR and aSoIF are similar is like saying the Sopranos and CSI are similar -- sure, the props look alike, but that's pretty much it.

  • 9:52 That's got to be The Mountain That Rides.

  • @PunchRockGroin He looks like an absolute beast in that close up shot. I love it!

  • @PunchRockGroin Yeah dude, that has to be Gregor Clegane that big and cruel asshat in the book.

  • Screw winter, April is Coming.

  • 2:10 It's the Angry Elf from the movie Elf! ...and his name is Peter Dinklage ??? lulz..

  • hey guys GO AT 09:51 THERE IS SAMWELL TARLY!!!

  • Yes. We are horribly spoiled. Did you know that the first book was released in 96? Then 98, 2000, and 2005 respectively. We dearly want to know what happens to the characters we have come to know and humbly apologize for this making you sick.

  • God, I'm sick of spoiled fans bitching about GRRM not finishing his book yet. Just...shut up. Your whining isn't going to get the book finished any faster.

  • Daenerys is so fine.

  • WAIT WAIT WAIT! why do they are not talking about incest?

  • @indarwen Because it's a serious spoiler?

  • Viserys looks freaking awesome! Can they rewrite the script so that a certain event turns him Super Saiyan?

  • why does jaime have brownish hair hes got long blonde hair hmmm? i cant wait to see this

  • Just started reading a game of thrones a few days ago,and I can't stop.

George, stop fucking talking and keep writing!

  • im not sure if you noticed but where are the direwolves??

  • im not sure if you noticed but where are the direwolves??

  • @sarsi212 If you look at the pictures on Entertainment Weekly's website about the show there is a picture of Sansa Stark walking next to her direwolf Lady. Check it out.

  • @mchumandeluxe that direwolf looks like a pet . I could probobly get one from one of my neighbours. XP

But i don't mind it. I expect they'll look better when they get older

  • Really awesome, spring 2011!

  • LIKE! LIKE! A THOUSAND TIMES LIKE!

  • MORE PLEASE

  • This is the best story I've read in my life. I want the show and the next book now!

  • The war is coming...........on april 2011

  • So pumped this is going to be easily as good as Rome probably better

  • george rr's presence on the set give me great hope

  • it...looks very different from the books. But I can't wait to see it nonetheless.

  • Carcetti for Mayor!

  • Can't wait for that!!!! I particularly love the disturbed characters like Ilyn Payne and the Cleganes, Cersei's lust and Snow's burning desire to become a great knight... Thanks GRRM!!!!!!!!

  • I've never looked forward to a show as much as I'm looking forward to Game of Thrones.

  • Comment removed

  • @phoqnchyt

well, if it's anything like Rome was - which was also made by HBO - it will be just as violent and sexual as the book. ;)

  • Seriously HBO, you can't upload in higher quality? 360p just doesn't cut it for this epic series. Thumb up so for higher quality vids!

  • @ranamit112 About the quality, there is a site, "making game of thones dot com" that has it in good quality and also has all news of the series

  • @Talazorn You're right, and apparently this video is also available in HBO dot com in better quality. But why not release it in good quality here too?

  • Omg I can't wait!

  • the hounds face isn't burnt for 1 of 2 reasons.either the actor playing has it written in his contract or they couldn't get the special effects right.if you care so much write a letter to MR. martin and ask him

  • ASoIaF > WoT > Malazan

I agree, Robert Jordan could be a bit wordy, but, as little as that takes away from the novels it never drops below Malazan in any shape or form.

I'm not saying that Malazan is a particularly bad series, but it is definitely not of the caliber that WoT is, and because of this, it is below WoT in my opinion. And yes, it is just an opinion, and no one opinion is correct.

  • Now i read the Game Of Thrones. I am very happy because it was translate in my language, romanian. Is a very good fantasy book. I like very much. Martin, please finish fast the book A dance with dragons. The movie seems to be very good.

  • @walftoby It is not a movie, it is a television series :)

  • @thornsss18 , Yes, my bad.

  • @walftoby

Cool!!! I would be interested to read them in Romanian (O Balada Despre Gheata si Foc?) especially because I am interested how some of the more medieval names translate. I've read the books in English. Please tell me how the titles are actually translated. thnx

  • Comment removed

  • @AndrewCorvin

'Cantec de gheata si foc'. Iar prima parte (2 volume) se numeste 'Urzeala tronurilor'. Numele proprii probabil ca sunt identice, diferenta va fi la 'The Hound', de exemplu, sau alte astfel de porecle.

  • @AndrewCorvin , names are not translated, are keep same names like in the english edition. Title's translation is Cantec de Gheata si foc.

  • Just to stress that it takes a lot of planning with any book and he's writing a FANTASY series! He's had to have come up with the world, the history. Everything. Which adds to the time it takes to write because it has to be perfect (in the writer's eye). So give him a break that it's taking a while. We don't want it to be anything less than brilliant. Brilliance takes time.

  • Haven't started on Malazan yet (I've heard good things), but Wheel of Time doesn't deserve mention in this. That drivel hardly qualifies as fantasy. It hardly qualifies as a literary work unless you like reading endless pages about how a barrel looks or some girls sniffing on their horses circlejerking for chapters and chapters. Plus, Jordan never finished it because he was too busy dragging it out for coin. That crap should have ended about 5 books ago.

  • This is going to be fantastic!

  • @unclejimbo827 I approve of this message.

  • I love it to death already.

  • ahhhhh I can't wait for this to air, going to be the best TV show ever made without a doubt.

  • @xolotl92 Uh, no. Both of those series suck. Especially Malazan.

  • @Zubirrex

Everybody is entitled to their own opinions; here is mine: The Wheel of Time is the best, ASOIAF is second; Malazan is good, too. Now if you like ASOIAF, which I suspect you do since you are here, then I don't understand how you can say the others suck, because the writing is great in all 3 series.

  • @AndrewCorvin No, it really isn't great writing. Yes, it's all opinion, but I feel WoT is second to ASoIAF, and Malazan is just really bad writing, period. Malazan is nothing but a succession of deus ex machina every book.. It's ridiculous.

  • Hell yes. Tommy "Aidan Gillen" Carcetti as Littlefinger at 2:43 !

  • *yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn* just kidding, this looks pretty good.

  • Dear George RR Martin,

please stop wasting your time traveling to boring conventions and posting stupid blog post and finish your books! we are waiting over 4 years now for a "A Dance with Dragons"!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Who is that in 2:30? Is that Renly?

  • @Doryphoroi

    I think that's LIttlefinger.

  • @sedeyus yeah he calls him Lord Baelish in that scene.

  • @Doryphoroi I'm pretty sure its Robb.

  • Aiden Gillen is going to be an amazing Petyr. Oh, that wicked grin...

  • xD First we had Xena & the Mummy guy in Spartacus... Now we have Fred Flinstone, & the Boromir in here. It's gonna be EPIC.

  • I think i just came.

  • Why does GRRM even talk about the story?

If you watch the video and read this comment than you probably read the book.

  • Jaime's golden armour is awesome

  • "Well, lord Snow, it appears you are the least worthless person here."

    That part makes me chuckle.

  • George Martin! Stop talking and keep on writing! ;-)

  • @crinoss2 ADWD will be released when GOT starts airing on HBO, trust me. It's marketing.

  • @crinoss2 has it ever occurred to you that he can probably do both???

p.s. i am unbelievably hyped for this everything about it has looked perfect so far. peter dinklage ftmfw.

  • @crinoss2 AMEN!

  • @JoaoAlv3s did you read the books?

  • @JoaoAlv3s It's as far as LotR as Glee is.

Really, it's really impossible to describe what is different, it's easier to write what is similar: it's set in a fantastic world roughly similar to our middle age. That's mostly it.

LotR is an epic history of heroes, fighting to save the world from the evil one(s). GoT is a dark and gritty history of people cheating on each other for power, where the evil ones are just the ones cheating better.

  • @JoaoAlv3s Don't comment on shit you know nothing about. It confirms how stupid you are to the rest of us. Read the books or find out more of the series before making full-retard comments. Idiot.

  • @JoaoAlv3s yes they are original concepts. I haven't really run across any books that show case the dangers and intrigue played out in the Court the way George RR Martin does. He is really good at all the little intricacies of all of the characters from the most mundane to the most important plot characters the only thing that may come close is The Tudors, but Martin's books came out long before The Tudors series was made. Now if only Martin would finish Dance of Dragons we would all be happier.

  • @JoaoAlv3s really....really...you don't fucking know what you'r writing!really!read the books!

  • @JoaoAlv3s LOL not even close. Tolkien can get a few lessons of fantasy from GRRM

  • @Alazare1 thank you and thanks to everyone who replied to my comment. As I said I based my opinion on this trailer, and it doesn't seem like much, but you all convinced me to read the books. They seem interesting.

Of course my thanks exclude that rude "iamrafsusername", whom either is a highschool snot that still has his mommy wipe his butt, or he's a 40 something living in his momma's basement, jerking off to WoW dark elfes.

Get a life, and learn from all the others that replied.

  • @JoaoAlv3s

Trust me, the books really are awesome, and if the show is as close to the Book and George says it is, it'll be worth it.

I do disagree with Alazare that Martin is better than Tolkien. A song of Ice and Fire amd Lord of the Rings are different subgenres of Fantasy and thus IMO can not really be compared.

  • @Alazare1 Problem is GRRM was inspired by JRRT and other fantasy writers. And fantasy books can be written in every manner be it dark fantasy, mythical fantasy or romantic fantasy etc,.

  • Harry Lloyd is a scarily good actor based on what I've seen here. And it must be said that most of the casting is spot on. Iain Glen is a great actor and a terrific piece of casting in the role of Jorah Mormont.

  • Thank you HBO for making this possible.

  • Only can say one word..... AWESOME..... cant wait for that great serie

  • fattkattz55 <<<<<< Troll

typically covered in unhygenic acne and delusional by nature, they hide in shame within the shadows of their maternal parent's underburrows. The possess the amazing ability to provide oral pleasure to themselves.

    ***Caution DO NOT FEED***

Feeding can lead to further verbal excrements

  • @fattkattz55 I don't even bother to reply. You must be a obvious troll.

  • @fattkattz55 Why should they? There are already several of those out, like The Tudors and Pillars of the Earth.

  • @fattkattz55

Rome failed? Rome was an amazing series.

  • @evilyig agreed! it ended when it should have. It was a complete story.

  • @fattkattz55 This isn't a movie. With all the pre-series fans they have, they should HAVE no problem getting the ratings they want.

  • @fattkattz55 Your parents failed. At everything that involves you. I hope someone goes medieval non-fiction in your ass like 1100 times. Fag.

  • I think to say that this story has "so many twists and turns" is an understatement. That's how shockingly unpredictable it is. I'm actually jealous of those people who are gonna watch this without having read the books first.

  • So far there are only two gripes I have with what we've seen, and those are Catelyn's lack of attractiveness (let's face it, she was never as enticing as Cersei, but she always struck me as reasonably beautiful) and the Hound's lack of... horrid disfigurement. But maybe once we get a better definition than fracking 360 P!!! we'll get a better picture...

  • @WiredDragoon Yeah Catelyn is the only character who looks completely wrong here imo. I thought the actress who they initially had playing Catelyn was absolutely perfect for the role.

  • WINTER IS COMING!!! YAY!!!

And so is the 5th book, if the rumors are true.

  • There are two actors in this show that look like Gaius Baltar: Jon Snow and Viserys Targaryen.

  • OMFG!! I soooooooooooo wish i had a freaking time machine!!

  • meh

  • the last minute is awesome

  • @sigoog Just read the book, and trust in the writ in word, you are gona love it...

  • Best fantasy series ever written.

  • @Ybrethar I agree. I respect Tolkien but killing orcs instead of humans isn't my kind of thing :) I have only read the first book but I already love the series and my brother tells me "Clash Of Kings" and "Storm of Swords" are way better than the first one. Game of Thrones / ASOIAF will be a phenomenon like LOTR. I can't wait for the first videogames either :)

  • @Ybrethar no question

  • @Ybrethar Agreed. Nothing I've ever read is as interesting or rich as this universe. Amazing, amazing literature.

  • The Hound @ 8:40. Looks like the scar is pretty small.

  • @Zubirrex Yeah, from the descriptions in the book I always thought that half of his face was hideously disfigured. Wasn't it even mentioned that the flesh had been burnt off down to the bone at one spot?

  • @WiredDragoon Yep, the ear was gone, etc. From the description in the book, I pictured him looking like Two-Face in the last Batman Movie. I understand they can't afford to CG one actors face for a whole season, but I expected it to be more severe. But I'm just nitpicking, I just hope the show doesn't suck.

  • @WiredDragoon I always picture the scar being around specifically in and around the left eye, but leaving his lower left side and the rest of his face untouched. Like, it's only horrible because of Sansa's view of the Hound.

  • Comment removed

  • @Zubirrex Look closer. His ear is missing and the left side of his face looks ashen. It's hard to tell, because his left side is facing away from the light. It's probably not gonna be as horrible as it appears in the books.

  • Kick ass!

  • 10 minutes of pure AWESOMENESS

  • There is only one thing that bothers me after watching this. Aren't the Targs naturally blondes? If so, why are their eyebrows dyed dark?

  • Can't wait! This show is gonna be anwsome!!

  • holy crap did you see the size of that dragon skull at 07:03 !
